w0w, what a list of players that have been invited out for the mini camp. Are there any predictions of who may be picked and who will be the captain?

I believe that Iginla will be captain of the squad.

I'll give my picks for team soon.

geez- you think they'll leave Crosby off of this roster again?? big mistake in '06.

if it were my team to choose:

G's
Luongo
Fleury
Ward

D's
Niedermayer
Pronger
Keith
Weber
Seabrook
Bouwmeester
Boyle

F's
Crosby
Richards (Mike from Philly)
Carter
Nash
Iginla
Getzlaf
Heatley
Lecavalier
Staal (Eric)
Toews
Doan
Morrow
Gagne

truth is about 8 players could and should captain this squad. a good case could be made for any of them, too!
(Doan, Iginla, Morrow, Crosby, Getzlaf, Richards, Niedermayer, Bouwmeester, Boyle) but, I'd narrow it down to the first 4 mentioned.

Pretty nice roster I agree with most of it. I put Brodeur in place of Ward. I'd also put Phaneuf and Robyn Regehr in place of Seabrook and Boumeester. Up front I agree with all of them but one, Toews. Sub in Joe Thornton for him and that's my roster.

There's absolutely no way Jay Bouwmeester should be in the discussion for captain. None whatsoever, and that's assuming he even makes the team. Bouwmeester hasn't even captained a team in the NHL and you think he should be captain of Canada? His demeanor is too laid back and he's too soft spoken to be given a leadership role on the team is he makes it. I think Scott Niedermayer will be the captain.

Should be interesting to see which players get off to good starts in October and beyond and make a case for a spot on the team.

That's my 2 cents anyways.

some good critiques...

remove Gagne and insert Thornton. as for Phaneuf- I didn't like what I saw from him at all through all of last season... especially post season.

I'd also really like to see Lucic crack the lineup... my criticism of the 06's team canada was they ignored young talent in favour of veteran experience... but, today's young elite talent is much better than the vets, in my opinion. why Crosby wasn't a consideration for '06 is beyond me.

I agree with Phaneuf, he played poorly last season and at times has trouble in his own end, however, he's still a top defenceman and he'll rebound from a points perspective this year and that should be enough to buoy him into Canada's top 6 defencemen.

Gagne I think has a good shot at making the team if he's healthy, he's showed he's still a gifted goal scorer after coming back from a concussion and he's a responsible player. He's also an Olympic vet having played in Salt Lake and Turin.

The reason I hesitate to predict Toews will be on the team is due to his young age and his game is similar to Mike Richards. Toews has no doubt been solid on the international stage for Canada at the Junior level, and also plays a mature two way game. However he'll only be 21 at the time of the Olympics, and i think that combined with his similarities to Mike Richards will mean he's left off the team. Richards plays a similar game however he's stronger, more physical and is a little better in terms of the defensive aspects of the game, he was robbed of the Selke this year. However, if there is anyone who can play there way onto the team this year it's Toews, especially if Brendan Morrow (who looked like a great replacement for Ryan Smyth on future team Canada rosters to me) isn't his old self after his injury from last season.

This thread will get real interesting once the season starts.

Very good thread and great choices for players. Not much argument here. The main thing is that Canada should win. That is one stacked lineup.

word out of the camp says Iginla is having difficulty with Crosby's and Nash's speed and may be moved to a lower line to better match his playing abilities... too bad, 'cause I think Iginla's hard shot would go great to compliment how mobile Crosby and Nash are... but, chemistry has to happen so I understand the moves.

Niedermayer and Keith are the top D pairing in the entire camp so far.

Today's TSN report said the top two defensive pairs were Niedermayer with Weber and Pronger with Boyle

anyone else watching the live team canada scrimmages online??

I'm very impressed with Jordan Staal. He really looks quite good.
