Speaking of eye gauging, Heatley suffered an eye injury in Europe last year. That, combined with recovery from his knee surgery, resulted in him playing way below his pre-accident level. If he can return to that level, I think Ottawa got the best of the deal. If not, Hossa will outperform Heatley during the regular season. Who knows if Heatley is a playoff performer? All that's certain is that Hossa is not.

I thought Ottawa lost the arbitration case first, so reluctantly went for the for the $18 mil sign and trade for a highly valued Heatley (who comes in at $13 mil - not sure how many years but 3 I think)
I think it was supposed to go to arbitration at 9:00 am, but the $18M deal was signed ar 8:55 just before they were set to go to arbitration. There was always the possibility that the arbitrator could, by chance, rule in favour of Hossa and give him the $7M him wanted. good trade for both sides.

So, the Sens traded an eye carver(see Berrard incident) for a teammate killer. Call it a wash.

bravo.
Yep.
That's about the size of it.
And the Canucks get their spine-cracker back.

Only in the NHL ........

Enjoy the idiocy this year, boys.
