How has the recession affected you?

Or has it, I was laid off in January when the project I was working on was done, then took 5 months off and traveled a bit. Recently got a job that only lasted about 9 weeks and was laid off again. Although I never really fit in from the start, so I don't know if it was a gentle nudge layoff or an actual shortage of work, even though the job was also ending.

So in you occupation, have you noticed a slow down?

Personally, all I've found is that my mortgage, gas and food costs are cheaper. So far, this recession rocks!

Dodged a few bullets at work and still have the same stable job. Got a kick ass deal on a house from someone who was going through a break up and less then a month from foreclosure...

Other then that I have been living on the cheap and saving a lot more money then I would typically have.

I'm actually having the best year of my career. Business is booming, firing on all cylinders... It's good to be recession proof...

Japan has been pretty silent lately, but I have been pounding them like never before, thanks to the recession. No dates with rich women, but I am still asking and they are still single.
Showing strategies on how the rich women will be even more wealthy if with me. One might capitulate soon, 'cuz eventually she'll want that money my idea offers, since there is
no better one out there.

Rich women happen to be recession proof and they do get a hard clitoris.

ayup, my business is down oh about 100%....people just aren't spending like they used to. I thought I was recession proof because when people had job security, they were buying new houses and wanted to fix up their old to get a better price. When times were tough(er) they'd want to stay where they were and fix up the one they were keeping....

Now? Diddly....

I've had the odd little job here and there from a property management company I do work for but they cancelled a couple of biggies because the condo/co-ops don't have any money. (unlike mine who just hit us with a special assessment whenever the board feels like it).

My sales are down in some sectors; forestry and heavy mining...but industrial recycling is off the hook right now! Two of my main clients have grown and sustained the near-death of the others. I put my staff on work-share as a precaution; though it was only needed for maybe two weeks?

I used the "quiet time" to improve infrastructure in my shop, rid my floor of some deadweight employees (with only one lawsuit pending! haha) and keep my machines clean and well-lubed...not unlike myself. ;)

I'll admit to being a bit worried at times...but it looks like it's been a blessing in disguise for my company.

Doing fine....sold a house prior to the drop (although my ex got some of the profits, I did well form the deal) and am renting (paying half what I used to put down on my mortgage) until ready to buy back in (I have my eye on a property that my agent thinks may come up soon as the owner is getting ready to retire and currently rents it out. It would go for about 30 % less than it did 2-3 years ago, so we'll see.

Business (in total, I have several) is up about 10 % since the start of the year. It had grown about 20 % a year in total for the last 4 years (on average) and is at a point where I can almost stop my contract work which is still steady - but has full benefits which is why I keep doing it! 3 days a week.

SP's are doing just fine.

Lengthening their minimum hours so they work less but either maintaining the same hourly rate (just doubling it for the increase minimum time) or increasing it.

Extras available. Cookies and milk...

...:)

Personalized stationery wedding invitations down significantly , people are going with the lower end products when they can .

not to be rude , but your boss is an ASS!...he's doin well here in Canada, then decides to move the business to India for cheaper labour costs?
I don't disagree with you, but perhaps the decision is not up to him... everyone has someone to answer to... Maybe he is being forced to, to allow for greater ROI for the shareholders...

I am getting layed off at the end of the year. I am in the I.T business, my employer is doing really well and is moving the work to India.
This is what has to be stopped. And it is not "protectionism" if it is stopped. I.T. shipped out weakens the country. Let me guess, is it IBM?

According to pure business logic, your employer is doing the right thing. If they don't do it, their competitors will, and they will be at a competitive disadvantage.

I recently heard a very well known and respected venture capitalist in the tech industry say to a group of new budding IT entrepreneurs, "If you don't have an INDIA PLAN [that is, a plan to move part of your operations to India as you grow], we will not fund your business."

How the world might change over the next 25 years is kind of scary.
