I have decided that I will refrain from voting in Canada untill
proportional representation is introduced.

By the way, who is there to vote for, when the NDP
and the conservatives get together with the quebecois
to defeat the liberals?

The choices may be slim but, if you choose not to vote, you have no right to complain.

BTW, the main reason I vote is so I can complain. :D

I'll vote Conservative as its the best I can hope for but I must admit this new chequebook addiction is disturbing.

You left off the Elephant party. Their platform is simple. They'll pay off our national debt with a no limit American Express card.

I agree to some extent.

But, the Liberal's are trying to paint the new budget as strictly a vote getting vehicle. I think there is more to it than that. Much of the so called spending is related to provincial transfer payments which I think are consistent with true Conservative ideals.

There are also corporate tax breaks (manufacturing re-tooling for example) which can have a positive affect on the economy.

Is it an election budget? Absolutely.

That's how they did it in Ancient Greece.

In Canada, pretty all mainstream parties are liberal (just varying degrees), which is a reflection of our culture, general attitudes. Other countries have more truer conservative parties.

Local candidate's don't matter - if they don't tow the party line they get kicked out.
Joe Comuzzi, Garth Turner (who agrees Harper's decision to kick him out of the CPOC), John Nunziata, recent Pakistani--can. MP kicked out for advizing Harper on sub-continent policies....etc. On the other hand, my MP has been really good to me, so I guess the individual can be factor.

So far in terb, it's a clear majority for the Conservatives.

I think Lancs and Pussy Licker found a way to vote more than once. :D

It always seems to be that way on terb. I don’t’ recall the conservatives ever losing a vote on TERB, even when they lost an election. I’ve sometimes wondered what baises the vote here. Part of it is likely the fact that most here are men and men vote disproportionately for the conservatives. Perhaps, the age here is a bit above average which helps them. However, going against that is the fact that most terbites are from Toronto and the conservatives don’t’ get much support in Toronto. Thus, I have never understood the outcome here.

TERB demographics aside, I have a feeling a spring election will bring a similar result. ;)

I don't know about 57% of the popular vote, but otherwise I think you may be right. However, I'm not sure what excuss they can use for an election and with the numbers in the Globe poll today, I can't see either the BQ or the liberals forcing an electon. I guess time will tell.

I guess that means there will be one less uninformed voter.

So, can I stay here if I promise not to vote?

What is the means test for voting you would like to introduce? Equal to the poverty line?
