The question just posted about wierdest thing happened to you on the TTC got me wondering.

I drive a TTC bus.

Innocent Question:

In my opinion a lot of hot babes do not ride the TTC.
Perhaps they do not like being stared at or hit upon by perverts or they got boyfriends who do not want them on the TTC. Do you think I am right on this?

Not innocent Question:

My probation just ended. Before this I was afraid to flirt as I did not want any harrassment charges during probation. Now that I can safely try, any tips on how I could get numbers?

Another question

What does a girl ( or anyone else for that matter) think of when she sees a TTC employee?

1 Lazy dropout incapable of making anything of himself or accepting any big challenges in life? (This is what I think) :D

2 Respectable person making great money for a blue collar job who would make a good provider.

Well, if you want to be a good samaritan get off the buses and become a guy who works at the subways. That way, you can save the lives of people who get pushed in front of the trains and the girls will be all over ur dick cuz they'll think you're a hero.

In terms of what girls think of ur profession...well...I am a guy but I say it's #1. But, all the power to you. You make some good coin and you have basically no stress...and I'm sure you have a great quality of life because of that...so girls would like that shit!

How do you get sleazeball out of that?

Someone taking advantage of a situation that he/she is presented with?

As long as I am still doing my job, and not harassing anyone, why does this bother you?

Now if I was doorman at a nightclub I would agree. My job there is to provide a safe environment for you to meet the girls, not to provide you with competition.

IMHO Mr Lucky getting a number from someone who is drunk is a bad idea.

She is not thinking rationally and when she sobers there is a very good chance she will not appreciate the phone call.

Great insight . That is why I jumped on the job. I am sick of overstressed underpaid jobs that you do just for the sense of accomplishment. WTF kind of rationale is that? Kind of embarrassed at the simple nature of the job though but WTF.

Put my application in not thinking it would happen and a week later they phoned me up. Quit my other job pronto. I had given them 10 years of my life and boss never even shook my hand. Saw him on the street yesterday and he smiled and said hello and I just kept walking. When I left I needed his reference, I do not even need that now so his power over me is zero, finally.

Job is much like you describe. Bad part is split shifts and the hours.

The way I view it, I do not work for the TTC, I work for my union which has fought for what I got ( as much as I do not respect the board for striking, that is a different issue)

If the TTC had thier way I would be making $15 an hour and we would be overstressed, minimal workers rights etc.

Would be like working at Tim Hortons.

I've never taken the bus before and I have only taken the train once so from my perspective...and I mean no offense but

the very first thing that would come into my mind would be that this dude must do this with every pretty girl he sees that gets on the bus. anyone who hits on every girl he sees or is percieved to hit on every girl he sees becomes a sleazeball.

next is because there would be no escape for the person that's being hit on. when you approach a chick on the street or anywhere else she can always walk away and chances are you'll never see that person again. here she'll have to endure an uncomfortable ride the rest of the trip and when it's over the next time she has to take the bus she'll wonder about if she's going to run into you again.
You have presented thoughtful problems that I would have to be aware of.

I agree you make a valid points. To do so will take tack on my part so as not to make anyone feel uncomfortable. I have to be an astute reader of body language etc This is the same anywhere really. I always need confirmation from the hittee ( I am the hitter) this can be bold such as a direct approach on her part or more subtle and intuitive

I see your sleazeball point if view as well.

A streetcar driver on my GF's regular route hit on her. Pissed me off. Your job is to drive the damn bus, not hit on my girlfriend. Nobody in front of the white line, right? You going to pick them up, carry on a conversation while glancing at them in the mirror?

Serious answer.

Just be friendly with everyone. Men. Women. Old. Young. Strike up conversations with them all. Obviously, if it's with pretty girls, you're hoping it'll go somewhere. If you do this it'll be natural for you to be talking to your passengers, including the girls.

Your best luck is going to be with "regulars" on your route, girls you've seen a couple of times. Since they know you chat with everyone they won't think it's strange you're talking to them.

Talking to everyone else will also help you practice your small talk, and I imagine once the conversation is started that picking up girls on the TTC is much the same as picking them up anywhere.

Incorrect. The union would not allow it. That is the beauty of a union.

Cannot get fired because boss does not like you or your behaviour. If there were a series of complaints the most that would happen is I would be put someplace else. If I try to be a player though I would keep my technique unoffensive and under the radar. But one of the dangers is someone may complain .

But....

Aren't you guys just SO busy driving your buses to try and carry on conversations with the riders (cute babes or otherwise)???

Wasn't it just a couple weeks ago you were (well maybe not YOU specifically, but the drivers in general... or at least the union reps were- which is YOUR voice in these types of things...) all complaining that you didn't have time to call out the stops????

I'm just saying...

lol ... really good point C-G ... you'd hope both the union and the TTC would both be a little concerned about a driver whose attention was focused on picking up chicks, rather than on the incredibly complex task of safely driving a bus full of human cargo, in city traffic.

All routes and times of the day are not equal.

I was not thinking of doing this on Lawrence during rush hour where the union is correct in what they are saying. I refuse to call stops if voice call is not working their and use safety as my excuse.

Drivers reselect their work every six weeks. I would have to select work, if it was available, that was not overstressed. As someone who has not a lot of senority, it may not be available. And selecting routes that are good for this challenge eg Univesities, the beach etc

Certainly, if I decide to become a player route selection would be a big part of it.

Lifeguards have a job to do too. They aren't supposed to be mowing the babes all day either.

I am not sure this is right way to view things
I would think that you would not want to have harassment charges at any time and would therefore always act in a manner which is morally acceptable.

I may have misinterpreted, however the way this reads is now your past the probation period you are free to behave as you like and you would be protected from any harassment acquisitions by your union

Being friendly to all riders is a good plan. Any smart hot-looking ladies may notice a friendly out going person that helps an elderly person board and get seated or provides help to someone who is unsure of the bus route they need.
This is in contrast to the sullen, complaining type who whine and bitch about everything wrong with the job

Two words of advise:
1. Its not wise to shit where you eat
Its your job first and foremost, any dates you might get would be a bonus, but not the reason you clock in

2. Know when to draw the line and take a hint
Most ladies are friendly and more than willing to talk to someone interesting, There are times when they may just want to be alone with their thoughts and not appreciate getting hit on, especially by the driver of the bus they take everyday

Be very careful in this area.

1) Read the TTC Code of Conduct Manual (I assume they have one).
2) Go to both the Ontario and Federal Human Rights Commission on what is consider "sexual harassment". Remember that a civilian lady can file a complaint directly with the Human Rights Commission and bypass the TTC and the Union altogether.
3) In some professions such as teaching, medical, law, it is forbidden to hit on a student, patient, client. Busdrivers have or should have such a rule as well for passengers.

You think like me as this is very close to what I was visualizing.

I realize this is not "Keys to the VIP" (tv show on bar pick ups) and it would not be wise to act in such a manner.

As well, a key you forgot is safety first. There are times eg 10 minute layovers at the beach or university, night bus and other times where it would not impinge on safe driving habits.

But, if you can make bonuses out of your job, why not?
