A caveat on Best Buy USA .... not sure about Canada

I bought my Toshiba laptop and Dell Desktop from BB for the best price and got NO extended warranties on either. BB sales staff pushed their ext warr saying it you don't get it, they won't do any warr repair work and you will have to ship it to Japan or Dell! Turns out that is BS.

Anyways to check this out I called both 800 help numbers of Toshiba and Dell before purchase to test out their phone service by asking them some tech questions. After these 'test calls' I was pleased with both tech phone services. Toshiba told me there was no need to send a laptop to Japan for warr work since there were several repair shops < 10 miles from where I live. Dell told me not to worry since BB HAS TO HONOR any repair work while under warr and the sales staff just says they won't, to try to get you to buy the ext warr.

So far both laptop and desktop have performed flawlessly......knock on wood.....

Since this is for business, have you looked at Lenovo?

Thinkpads are rock solid. Great keyboards and battery life. Also great build quality.

Yes, had a thinkpad before it became Lenovo, no problems with it then, but don't know how it is doing with Lenovo.
Thank you all for your help.
I have ordered an Asus 17.3" screen special that Woodpeckr led me too. But what a process.
Phoned the local Best Buy..."do you have it in stock"..."yes sir we do.."
Half an hour later at the shop..."sorry, it isn't in stock. We can order but it would take awhile"
"I can check and tell you who has a stock...the store at Bay and Dundas has them in stock"
Go to Bay and Dundas.....guess what..."sorry sir, last one just walked out the door!" "Can you find out who might have one?" "No Sir, can't tell you that" wtf!
So, I bought it on line, delivery later this week.
Thanks again for all the valuable input...

Yes it was the one with the link that you provided....many thanks for that. I did manage to see a demo model in the store and it looked pretty good...not as pretty as some of the others...but I'm not into pretty; at least as far as computers go!
If I had ordered it through the store I might have been talked into the extended warranty, but as I ordered online, I managed to talk myself out of it! The extended warranty came in handy with my Toshiba problems a few years back, but other than that, I've never used them...so am now reluctant to spend the extra 2 or 3 hundred!
Looking at other Asus reviews I notice that the battery life is not the greatest but other than that...great reviews.
I gather this 1499 price lasts until the end of this week so if you are thinking of it, the clock is running....but then again there are always sales!
The laptop is for my wife....but I may get a chance to play with it enough to write a mini review later.
Thanks again AM
