According to research firm IDC, RIM has earned bragging rights as one of the world’s top 5 phone makers. With 10.6 million devices sold during the months of January to March, RIM managed to narrowly beat out fifth place Sony Ericsson by 100,000 phones. Nokia, Samsung and LG finished first, second and third with 107.8 million, 64.3 million and 27.1 million devices sold. Back in the U.S., Apple, which sold 8.75 million iPhones, secured the title of the number one U.S. handset maker by beating Motorola’s 8.5 million phones. Overall, some 294.9 million phones were sold by the top five companies during the past three months which represents a 21.7% increase YoY. Analysts are predicting that phone sales will grow 11% in 2010.

Hmmmmm...

OK.
I've played around with the iPad at the Apple Store several times, to see what all the fuss is about.
It is sleek, 'bright and shiny' so it's understandable that our Apple fanbois.....

will get a stiffy from the thought of merely fondling it......

Franky I found it, s-l-o-w, a frigging netbook, or my laptop is snappier and both are more functional! It was lacking in certain features that should have been included and underwhelming overall. Bet they will be in the next generations, you know the drill, IPad2, iPad3, etc....

But then you know what they say about arguing with Mac fans.......it's like arguing with someone in the Special Olympics because......

You mean like the fact that Ubuntu needs to come out with a better, improved version every six months? LOL!!

Look here for some quotes:

http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...s-what-ubuntu-s-missing-rich-jaroslovsky.html

"Error messages can be as obscure as Microsoft’s, if not more so. It’s one thing to encounter a “serious kernel problem,” which to some of us might just mean a lot of unpopped popcorn. But when it comes to “end-of-central-directory signature not found,” I really don’t want to be the one having to look for it."

"We regular computer users stumble around. We make mistakes, click on things we shouldn’t and get lost; when that happens, the software has to reel us back. What’s missing from Ubuntu is a sense that some intelligent life form behind it understands all that."

Hey look! Canonical charges for tech support!!! Isn't there some sort of conflict of interest going on here? What incentive is there for a company to bring out a best-in-class product if it means less money?

"Canonical makes money in part by selling customer support at a cost of $54 to $218 a year, depending on the level of hand- holding sought."

You can like the iPad, you cannot see the point but you can't say it's slow, I'm amazed at how instantaneous it is.....

LOL!
Perhaps YOUR $900, top of the line 64gb 3G iPad was a bit snappier.
To pay THAT MUCH for an iPad shows blind fanboism indeed.....

However the $500, 16gb entry level iPads used for display purposes were, s-l-o-w, with others besides me pointing this out to Apple staff. Perhaps this s-l-o-w-n-e-s-s is due to the fact there is NO farking RAM in them, or perhaps is is due to the underpowered 1 Ghz CPU used.....

Linux IS OPEN SOURCE which means they are ALWAYS dedicated to constant continual improvement/innovation/modification/evolution....etc. This culture/mind set is hardly anything new. It defines Linux where 'free spirit' thinking is encouraged. Unless you come from a closed locked up culture/mind such as Apple where their changes are tightly restricted/controlled to occurring only every 3 yrs. Mac folks prefer to be led around by the nose, doing as they are told...

This option is available in most systems even Apple Care which can cost even more, depending on the level of hand- holding sought....

They all have the same processor and memory..... You're an idiot, one of the things ALL of the reviews have been consistent on is the blazing speed.

IMO I think it is too premature to declare that “Slate [is] DOA.” HP has a very powerful distribution chain and plenty of money to promote this device. Furthermore, now that HP has purchased Palm, they also acquired a treasure trove of patents which could give Slate the edge going forward.

Millions and millions of people and businesses use Apple products, they are all wrong and Linux is the ONLY way to go? Think of the absurdity?

Save your energy OTB, enjoy your life, enjoy your iPad, give thanks you're not him.

BTW: In a blog post yesterday, Dean Hachamovitch, general manager for Internet Explorer, laid out Microsoft’s stance on the issue. For starters, he writes that “the future of the web is HTML5,” a position consistent with Apple’s view. Hachamovitch also has nice things to say about H.264, a video standard that Apple likewise has been pushing as a better video standard than Flash.

Perhaps the purchase of Palm is the driver here, they may move from releasing a Windows mobile device to a Palm OS based unit.... I'd consider that a smart move.

LOL

As I've said in two threads now, there are valid criticisms of the iPad, but speed isn't one of them.

Ahem? You still haven't stated for the record how much or what type memory the iTampon has that accounts for that blazing speed you perceive it has?....

I totally agree with your comments! The Palm Web OS is world class and now has the potential to revival Apple’s mobile OS.
