Hunter S. Thompson dead

Very tragic and sad that he's dead and he took his own life.
May he find peace in death that he could not find in life.
I have read some of his books through the years and found him to be a phenomenal writer/author.
Some of my all time favourate Thompson quotes;

It's a damn shame. I just read his latest, Hey Rube. A collection of columns he wrote for ESPN.com. More about gambling, drugs, drinking, politics and otehr vices than sports, but that's the beauty of him.

I loved Fear and Loating on the Campaign Trail, and still recommend it to anyone wanting to learn about American politics. The Curse of Lono, reunited him with Ralph Steadman and was a great read.
He was the greatest gonzo journalist, and I still get pissed off when somebody mentions Tom Wolfe (the great pretender) as a peer. I followed his writing in Rolling Stone and waited for each issue just to read what would come out of his head. I knew that a lot of it was raving lunacy, but it rang of truth.
I'm surprised he lived this long.

I agree... though I think Wolfe is much better than you give him credit for (and I consider them very different writers, though both were serialized in Rolling Stone.. hard to believe Rolling Stone was once vital when you look at what it is today).DCork said:

Sadly, Hunter S. pioneered a writing style and lifestyle that was difficult to maintain. He liked guns, huge quantities of alcohol & drugs and he chose to live on the edge. I always loved the fact that the 'Uncle Duke' character from Doonesbury was based on him. HST threatened to rip Garry Trudeau's lungs out for such a transgression.
The two Fear & Loathing books are brilliant. They're certainly not for everyone's taste but I heartily recommend them.
In closing a few words from the good doctor:
"When the going gets tough, the weird turn pro."
"As your attorney I advise you to start drinking heavily."
