one thing ive learned

honey, one thng ive learnt is that there are a different kind of positions you can fill

like the job you want...and
the job you can survive with...

learn what your willin to do to pay the bills, and get that job...be it bus tables, drive, paint or construction.

and then the ideal job, where you keep applying till you get one you really want... while you work in your survival job...

i took a job waitressing for a yr whie i looked for the job i really wanted .. i now work in my "want" job....plus of course playtime...

Have you thought about Not-For-Profit organizations? Even the lobbyists have full time people employeed and it is still in Politics.

Regardless, if you are strapped for cash you may need to Temp or look for something Full-Time in another field. This way you can put some money in your Pocket and then volunteer with something Politically related.

As for the "Ass Kissing" its virtually everywhere (Public Sector and Private Sector) but to various degrees. There are 4 ways to be successful as I see it:

Yes, Hornet, I greatly value your advice and suggestions. Yeah, non-profit orgs. are something I am really into too. But unfortunately I ain't got hook ups.

One of the reasons why I am into them is because they are not as exploitative like some privt. companies where you are just a piece of meat to generate capital. Not only that, working for a non-profit org. is a very noble cause. I may not be a noble person but, by working with one ... I can at least straighten myself out through my actions ...

Yes Crazy Canuck, but yet, I am also surprised to see how many "minorities" have a better command of English then actual native speakers of the English language.

At my former high school, awards were given out to students with the highest grade in their classes. What I was surprised was that the awards presented for the English classes from grade 9 to OAC, 4 of the 5 were rewarded to a "minority" ...

Another thing is, when I went on to university, I came to find out that most of the best and recognized "China/Chinese scholars" were in fact "White dudes" located either in the US or UK. Very few were Chinese dudes themselves ...

One thing I find funny is that when I go to a Chinese restaurant, I find White dudes and Blacks dudes using chopsticks better than I can ... LOL ... and when my mom sees it, she would scold me and say "look at yourself, even the foreigners can use chopsticks better than you ... you should be ashamed of yourself ..." in which I would reply with a smile ...

Another thing is ... I have a Taiwanese LF and she has a friend who is a White dude. And man, his Mandarin is just so much better than mine that I feel totally left out of the conversations ... LOL ...

You're not alone. Every new graduate has to deal with these issues. Can you imagine what it will be like for all those first year people this September when THEY graduate?

What's that old saying, "Looking for a job is a fulltime job in itself."?

You will have to register to all the major online job services and post your resume for viewing (monster.ca and workopolis.com are a MUST). Review the job seraching tips at monster! Setup alerts - these are automated emails (from the above job sites) that get sent to you daily whenever there is a position that matches your specified criteria. You can set different/separate alerts for different kinds/types of jobs.

As for government, try Provincial stuff - look in the Job Mart publication which is available from any provincial government office. It's also available online. There's also the Public Service Commission.

In the meantime, how are you at waitering? Get into a good restaurant and you could make some great tips.

Make a list of all the companies you want to work for and then go to their website and apply for a position. If you really want to work there, GO IN PERSON. Setup alerts wherever possible.

Have you written the Ontario Securities Course exam? Consider it! I adds a bit of weight to your resume, eventhough you are not interested in commerce!

Can OSAP help out if you do the Grad/Law School/Teachers College thing? Teachers College is only one year! Law School is three plus.

Yes, you are right ... I should definitely register with Monster and Workopolis instead of just focusing on Gov't jobs as they are still in the process of downsizing and shit ...

As for the Public Service, I have been in their "inventory" since Aug 2002 ... and have even successfully written the test. But, yet ... still no reply ...

Yupe ... I have taken the Canadian Security Course but quit right in the middle of it simply because I had not interest in doing the assignments and reading the material. I am just a weird dude. If I really like something, I will put in my heart and soul and do it to the best of my ability. Yet, if I don't like something ... I just totally ignore it. I really do know its a bad habit in our day and age where one must do things to survice and rake in money even if it means doing a job that you don't like ...

But, right now I am at the point where I am very frustrated and will do almost anything just to get some sorta income man ...

Yeah ... if my dad does not use my account for his business shit I would be able to apply for OSAP. I mean I do have shit loads of money in my account, but its not mine ... so, if the gov't sees this ... they will definitely not approve me. As for why my dad uses my account ... well ... let's just say he is "financially smart" and a "slick and sly accountant" ... LOL
