TERB In Need of a Banner

I'm sick of complaining/bitching: Is it Terbies, the internet age or is it canadians?

So much bitching and complaining these days every where I go. Why is negativity so rampant these days? So much complaining over the medals in the olympics, how the closing show sucked, how fat Kim K's ass is or whatever the bitch of the day is. Anyone get tired of the constant bitching?

I just spend the day in the palliative care ward of the Stronach cancer centre. Sadly I feel there are many among us who could use a lesson in perspective.

By being sick of it and complaining and bitching about it aren't you just contributing to the negativity? You shouldn't let other peoples actions affect how you feel.

Well, for one, I enjoyed the closing ceremonies. Mind you, I didn't watch the whole thing start to finish, but what I saw was OK (except Spice Girls).

What's that saying, "Be the change you want to see in others." Something like that. Might be worth trying.

I like Kim K's ass, I liked the Spice Girls during the closing ceremonies (Gerri Halliwell looked great), I'm grateful I did not spend the day in palliative care (But I've been there). Not everyone here is bitching. Some of us are actually here for the women.

It's not terbies, the internet age, nor canadians. It's the media. TV commentators specifically. Only a tiny select few can cope with hours of live broadcasting. The rest (the ones we see on CTV) can only get as far as a choice between being saying something negative and saying nothing.

Roll on the day when we, the long-suffering viewers of live sports broadcasts, will be provided with buttons on our remotes so we can select: 1. just the crowd noise; 2. crowd noise plus basic commentary; 3. crowd noise plus commentator plus conversations between commentator and "expert". I predict the 2 button might be used 5% of the time. The 3 button will fall off due to disuse.

The need for the 3 button would be less urgent if someone would just strangle John (I've-always-got-something-inane-to-say) McEnroe.

The trend to the negative. Do you ever think it might be people are trying to do way too many things (at once as well), and are a bit stressed as well. Sometimes it is nice to focus on one thing and just enjoy doing that one thing. That's why a session is so nice. The world could be crumbling out there, but you are focused on that time with a special lady.

I really enjoy going up north and getting away from all the distractions. Amazing how it refreshes you as well.

However, there are people out there who truly enjoy being confrontational, rude, putting others down, looking at things from a negative point of view.

Last week my car broke down up north...if I had been in the city, I would have been stressed about being late getting somewhere, the million things I had to do etc. etc.

Instead I went to a Canadian Tire parking lot, bought some parts, and did some parts exchange to get going again. A nice couple came up to me and asked if I needed help. I told them no that I had it under control.... but they took the time to have a long conversation with me. I then also realized that I was enjoying the the car repairs.... no rush, no pressure, it was fun.

HOWEVER.... imagine if I broke down on Adelaide St. or something in rush hour - get honked at, get the finger, bring told to fuck off, etc. etc. Probably a ticket too.

There are always two ways of looking at things. The originator of this thread put it in perspective, someone has it a lot worse than you do.

Here's a bit more sobering perspective. My friend goes to hospital on Thursday for some tests. Needs a MRI on the Monday. He is informed he has pancreatic cancer at such an advanced stage he is moved to palliative care unit. And he dies 10 days after being told of the diagnosis. I guess the only blessing is that he did not have months of wasting away to the disease and that he had the opportunity to say goodbye to loved ones. But jeez. Who saw that one coming?
