I admit I felt sorry for Mackay after Belinda dumped him and he went back to his fathers farm and cried in front of the cameras...but lets not forget that the only reason he became leader of the P.C's in the first place was due to fraud. He's a back stabber and a liar. In order to secure enough support to become leader of the Progressive Conservatives, he assured his main rival and signed a letter drafted by Joe Clark, that if elected leader of the P.C's he would not join with the Reform Party. So, in the end he wiped his ass with the letter he signed and stabbed all his supporters in the back.slowpoke said:

McKay put his country ahead of politics, the only way the Liberals would have ever been beat is by the two parties merging together.
Joe Clark was a great man, but he was a Liberal, and during the last election he proved that. I even remember hearing a tape of Brian Mulroney talking about Joe Clark being too left. Being too left for Mulroney is pretty far left if you ask me.
McKay put the Pricipals of this country before the personalities and ego's of a party. That is a sign of a good leader. Many right wing people wanted that merge only the Progessive's didn't. The Progressives are a small minority.
