Info on good suits from all you business types

IMO
a) 2 vs 3 buttons
2 to look smart. 3 for trendy.
b) flat pants vs pleated
flat for classical look. Pleat gives flare when the jacket comes off.
c) belt vs no belt
No belt = sloppy.
d) pin strips vs no pin stripes
Pin stripes not for larger body type.
e) single vs double breast
Double breast not for ones with pot-belly.
f) cuffs or no cuffs on the pants (leaning towards no cuffs thanks to ph9 and style guy from GQ magazine)
Cuffs to complete the flare, ie: sharp dressed man.
g) type of fabric? (what's a good versatile and affordable type of wool assuming the budget for the whole kit and kaboodle is say $1200 to $1500)
h) any options that I forgot?
Suspenders, handkerchief, cufflinks (for mature guys), Bow tie, trench coat, tie pin/clip, dancing shoes & boxers (advice from the ladies, same idea as smooth pantylines. Guess someone was watching!).

Btw, I've a tan summer suit, light & airy for the humid Asian weather, it's not for everyone.

I gotta admit to stretch out one suit for a few weddings I went with differnt coloured shirts and ties. A lot of combos with a navy blue suit.
Usually not an issue, but tough to repeat this round. Same group attending back to back weeks.

Perhaps I should draw attention with different companions, no one will focus on what I wearing!:D

How would you guys go through the options below.

a) 2 vs 3 buttons
These days it's 2 buttons. 2 buttons make you look leaner and it shows off the shirt more.
b) flat pants vs pleated
Flat pants give you that lean modern look
c) belt vs no belt
Always belt and match it to the shoes
d) pin strips vs no pin stripes
pin stripes is modern right now. I would only go with subtle pin stripes. They are somewhat slimming
e) single vs double breast
Double breast is out. It makes you look too heavy and overpowering
f) cuffs or no cuffs on the pants (leaning towards no cuffs thanks to ph9 and style guy from GQ magazine) :D too formal
g) type of fabric? (what's a good versatile and affordable type of wool assuming the budget for the whole kit and kaboodle is say $1200 to $1500) good wool will not look wrinkled after sitting in the car for a while
h) any options that I forgot?

A few more pointers:
- Harry Rosen Outlet has suits from last year at discounts, but still Italian made brand names
- If you don't have any suit then start with Navy
- Then maybe Charcoal
- A vest is only required for high end corporate (finance, banking....)
- You have to be the right type of person (artsy) to wear solid black otherwise it may make you look like a funeral parlour operator
- Plain, polished, laced black shoes will go most of the time (unless it is a brown suit), Brown shoes may go with charcoal
- Black Socks is best bet, but for light suits you can match them to pants
- Learn about the colour wheel, don't choose a brown suit with a green shirt. If you want to go all out then get your skin tone analyzed. They call them 4 season types and they will suggest a range of colours that best goes with your face skin. I.e. you may look better with a brown tie/shirt than blue.

One more thing about brand names. They may be a bit more expnsive, but you can really tank with a no name after wearing it just a few times. So even if you only spend 300 dollars it maybe money wasted quickly. Especially stay away from Italian sounding names that you have never heard of, like Emirilio Zagucci, sure rip off.

You guys rock. I feel so much better about where and what to buy. I'll probably look to get it after Xmas hopefully with a bit of a discount. My current suit should be fine for now and I'll unleash the new suit for June. :D

Fly to Bangkok $1000 (when on sale).
Get made to measure high quality suits at aprox $300 per suit. They can reproduce any style/designer with excellent quality fabric.
Have a great holiday at the same time.
I like the way you think.

Pin Stripes

If you only own 1 - 2 suits, avoid pin stripes, as they are too recognizable. Everyone will know you only have one suit "Oh look, there's Dave in his pin stripe suit again". Your instinct to go with dark blue is good. Also dark grey. You can make those colours look like new suits everty time you wear them simply by changing the accessories (shirt colour, tie colour). But the pin stripe, as nice as it is, is harder to hide.

I recently bought a new suit at the Harry Rosen outlet in Mississauga (Heartland). I was not really interested in labels, but they had some really nice suits from notable designers for a fraction of the cost in their regular stores. The staff was also great in helping me select a suit that fit wonderfully and felt great. I ended up going with a Zegna, dark blue with slight pinstripe. I ended up paying approx. $800 with taxes. Hope this helps.
