IF you get a speeding ticket in NY state, and not pay the DMV fine of 350 and court fine of 175.

Can the State issue a warrant for your arrest if you do not pay the fine?

Also on the note it says no driving privileges in NY state [ meaning you can't drive there] but they make it sound like you can enter the state/country without any problems.

But if you cross the border whether by land, sea or air I am guessing the border/customs person will arrest the individual on the spot right?
Like at Pearson I can see deny entry but they wouldn't hold anyone since....
well maybe call local police. After that I cannot imagine what they would do.

Now this didn't happen to me so DON'T shill me. It happen to my neighbour who is over 75 and doesn't want to pay the fine. SO THERE. I am sure it jsut talk on his side and pissed he got tagged. I told him not plea guilty now it's costing him 6 points.

Well, first off, New York state shares driving records/info with Ontario so the ticket is going on his record and his insurance will find out about it.

When (if?) he crosses the border he MIGHT be detained because there might be a warrant for his arrest on his record. I believe that once you cross that red line on the floor during inspection at the airport, you're at their whim. I don't believe you can run and they CAN pull you aside for further investigation.

I don't think Canada would extradite him for a traffic ticket but if he tries going across by land, odds are that he will be arrested.

just thinking outloud: if his name is recorded by immigration upon check in at Pearson (or any other Canadian airport). When he lands you can bet there will be police there waiting for him......

I am not surprised about this.

So if he flies to France and comes back in Canada the cops will be waiting for him?
I can see this happening if the plane lands in the US for any reason. It did happen to a fellow this year or last after coming back from the Caribbean.

No, if he flies into the US and or lands there which would be why he would be going through US immigration at pearson. He wouldn't be going through US immigration if he wasn't landing on US soil....

(I thought that was a given, the "going through US immigration" thing)....

There was a post some time ago here where the poster claimed some US states share info with certain provinces so that tickets can be collected somehow. It requires some investigation. Better to know for sure than go to NY and get thrown in jail for a warrant for tickets.

Well, the op already stated that the ticket included the driver not being welcome in NYS so lol, that's a given.

I think if you look up New York State online I think they have a link for highway laws etc. I looked this up once before for someone (about the info sharing with Ontario).

…edit…

A shill is an associate of a person selling goods or services or a political group, who pretends no association to the seller/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage others unaware of the set-up to purchase said goods or services or support the political group's ideological claims. Shills are often employed by confidence artists. The term plant is also used.
I fail to see what relevance 'shills' and 'shilling' could possible have to yr. tale. The definition's from Wikipedia BTW.

Based on some quick internet research I would say that your friend should pay his fines. Unless he got his ticket today, he needed to indicate to the appropriate authority his intention to dispute the ticket with 48 hours of the violation. Based on on your original post it sounds like that has already gone by.

I recall reading or seeing something a couple of years ago about getting tickets in New York state specifically. The story involved an Ontario women who received a ticket in NY state and ignored it. A warrant was issued in NY for her arrest. Subsequently she was driving in Ohio and was pulled over for some reason. Ohio has some kind of agreement with NY and she was subsequently arrested. If I recall correctly it ended up costing her something like $5000 when all was said and done.

A couple of websites that I looked at also said that NY State has a reciprocity agreement with Ontario and Quebec, and when you receive a speeding ticket, NY informs Ontario and the convicition and points end up on your driver's abstract.

Maybe he should just pay the fines?

Yes. Presumably for a traffic offense it is a New York State Warrant only i.e. they won't extradite, however, other posters indicate that this is not true - and I don't practice in New York. . .
Certainly he can call and ask.

* DUI/OUI/DWI etc. . . often is considered more serious, likewise Opperating with a Suspended License or without a license and they might well extradite.

Under the 911 rules, any flight over ANY US airspace is considered landing in the US for anti-terrorism purposes. If he is on a list, it will get flagged.
