According to Dr. Lajos Nagy, a New York plastic surgeon: "Sculpted ears not only enhance the attractiveness of the face, but also improve the experience of listening to music."

Whatever the reason, the surgical procedure has been slowly catching on with the young and daring. Body modification artist Russ Foxx has been sculpting ears for years and will only perform the operation on 18-year-olds or older, according to Shaughnessy Keely, a rep from his piercing shop, The Fall. "He'll do a few sessions and he'll sculpt your ear and make it pointy."

Put more graphically, elf ears are created by slicing the top of the cartilage on the ear and then sewing it back together.

I didn't come up with the idea, just curious who had the surgery.

Are kids in the mall sporting these ears? I haven't been Christmas shopping yet.

I'm thinking genintoronto might have them, she has that cute pixie look but there's no mention of her ears in any reviews.

I am curious as to whether the popularity of the Lord of the Rings trilogy may have played a part in the fad for "elf ears".

Yep, Lord Of The Rings was an influence, I think Liv Tyler had her ears done for the role and decided to keep them that way.

I doubt the operation is painful, probably looks much worse that it feels.
I imagine the healing would take a long time though.

On the right pixie out there they'd look great. :)

Fuckin' A Dude! Unfortunately the closest I've ever gotten was that midget lady that used to advertize on the RZ. When it got right down to the nitty gritty and the fur started to fly I just couldn't go through with it - her ears just weren't fucking pointy enough to get me hard! :p

I've been reading up on the internet, it sounds like a procedure any chick can have done at home by a friend.
Not expensive at all, some rubbing alcohol, a pair of scissors, tape, a sewing needle, a lighter, and some thread or fishing line will do the trick.

1. Have several drinks and smoke a few joints.

2. Cut a triangular chunk out of your upper ear. You'll be bleeding but don't worry - dab it with alcohol.

3. Sterilize a needle with a lighter, thread with fishing line and sew the ear together in the desired shape.

4. Put tape around your ear to prevent strain on the stitches.

5. Talk a picture, preferably topless on terb.

6. Repeat number 1.
