Is McDonald's insane? They're now selling genuine lobster sandwiches! Who in their right mind would go to McDonald's for lobster?

They have been doing so on seasonal basis quite successfully in the U.S. New England States for at least a decade.

Mental state I leave to others.

I did. Not that I've ever been accused of being in my right mind, of course. Still, I had to. Just, you know, cause the curiosity was killing me. And it was every bit as McMediocre as you would expect. And this is the last time I ever TOFTT at McDonalds, ya hear?

I recall my sister in law saying when Walmart took over Woolco... and they were putting in a McDonalds rather than a traditional type dept. store restaurant... why on earth would walmart put in a McDonalds in there, who in their right mind would want to eat in there? I said, do you think that any kid that's shopping with their parents is going to shut up until they get a burger & fries from there? she was quiet for a second and said, yeah, makes sense now.

So, with McD's introducing the lobster in Ontario, now parents can take the kids there for their burger & fries, Mom & Dad can have the lobster.
Makes sense to me.

Leaving aside the fact that it is mostly adult customers buying their $1.32 pigeon burgers at WalMart McD's, I don't think the "Let's order lobster at McDonalds while the kids eat their burgers" demographic in Ontario is really all that large. A few risk-taking thrill seekers aside, it'll flop and go back to being an East Coast thang again.

Lobster is dirt cheap these days. No doubt McDs made a huge bulk deal and got it for next to nothing. The sandwich is crap. They're making a killing off it

With the kinds of decisions McDonalds makes, I wonder if they will ever be a successful business.

They obviously have no idea what they are doing.

They must know something. I held their stock for a few years and made out like a bandit. Wouldn't be a buyer now though.

Lobster is currently dirt cheap in NB, NS and PEI so why not buy up surplus lobster and sell the McLobster to us in Ontario. Smart business. I travel back east once or twice a year and one of the things I always do is go out for lobster. Mmmmmmmmm lobster.

My point (although sarcastically) exactly. These guys have built a huge business. I think they know a little more than Petzel about what will sell/make profit.

I tried 1 and all I could taste was the mayo and green onion. The lobster had the consistency of canned tuna.

When the lobster boats come back with their catch and unload, they will find some that are in bad condition. Some have died from being handled roughly, crushed at the bottom of a ton of lobsters or are missing claws, they are dead or near death. These lobsters are sold as seconds and are processed for the meat. These lobsters are boiled and machine processes into big blocks of frozen lobster meat and sent to McDs for reprocessing into a lobster salad for sandwiches. Lobsters and shell fish should always be cooked fresh and alive.

Sometimes I buy lobster tails at Loblaws when they are on sale. I also like the meat in the claws but they don't sell claws only.

I tried the sandwich a few days ago and very disappointed....there were a few chunks of small pieces but the sandwich itself was mainly bun and lettuce....wont be buying again for sure.

Too bad.

I had a lobster sandwich when I was with my sons in PEI 4 or 5 years ago (don't think it was Mc.D's) and it was PFG (first word is pretty). Won't be be jumpin' on this one personally, but as I intimated before, this will not hurt the shareholders.

Buy a whole live lobster, that way you get the claws and the tail. You also get a live lobster that you know is fresh. When they sell the tails only, these are the ones that died on the way back to shore, who knows how long it took for them to get cooked and frozen after they croaked. I suspect that it is also cheaper this way. ( by the lb./kg )

They are low in price at this time and I have cooked them at home, but I also get lobster with garlic and ginger at the local Chinese restaurant.
