To make a new, working Internet Explorer icon on your desktop:
1) Go to your Start menu.
2) Go to Settings.
3) Go to Taskbar and Start Menu
4) Click the Start Menu tab
5) Click the Customize button
6) Click the Add tab
7) Click the Browse tab
8) Open the + to the left of each of the following folders, in sequence: My Computer, Local Disk C:, Program Files, Internet Explorer
9) Select iexplorer.exe, and click the OK button in the Browse for Folders dialogue box
10) Click the Next tab in the Create Shortcut dialogue box
11) Move the scroll bar up in the Select Program Folder dialogue box until you can see Desktop among the choices shown in the combo box. Select Desktop; click Next tab.
12) Rename the shortcut, then/else click the Finish tab
13) Click OK to close each of the final two dialogue boxes.
If you don't have dialogue boxes which give you the above choices, before step 4), click the button for Classic Start menu, in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialogue box, then change this button back to Start Menu when you see this dialogue box again as the last task in step 13) above.
