Why would they not? This seems so easy to understand. New York loses money because their star player is injured during the games. What so hard to understand. Its all insurance anyways

The answer is simple. The IOC want the best players from the NHL. If the NHL pull their players from the Olympics one of the premier sporting event for the winter games will be tarnished. There was serious debate before these games whether NHL players would participate.

That being said, the hosts should be required to provide the highest possible standards and safety precautions and be held liable for negligence.

The design of the luge track in Vancouver was ridiculous.
People were worried that the track was very fast and dangerous.
So they have massive steel girders lining it after a wicked turn with basically no barrier?
