I am looking for a new internet service provider for my mother who in her late 70s. Currently she is with Rogers. The problem is that she does not know much about computers and Rogers is useless with customer service. This usually only becomes an issue when there are problems with their virus protection software, like today when she found out she would have to install a new version of it. I used to help her with that stuff but I now live almost 4000 miles away.

Last time something came up, they directed her to their online chat line but she did not realize she was typing with someone at the other end. Today, they just referred her to some online instructions but that is not going well.

Can someone recommend an internet provider that would provide some phone support with people who would actually try to help her. As I say, it is usually only an issue when something changes with the antivirus protection they provide.

Thanks.

I doubt that any of the service providers will help her properly. Would it not be best to get a volunteer to come and help her in her home. There are many volunteer organizations and I suppose someone with a little bit of computer knowledge can be found. I would offer to help her myself, if it wasn't for the fact that you would not like to have a person from Terb visit your elderly mother.

Here
Use Microsoft "Remote Assistance" and get hands-on access to her computer so that you can help her...

Of course, you may have to get someone to show her how to boot up her application to get her started... unless she is confident enough that you can talk her through that on the phone!

Thanks for all the feedback. You guys brought up a number of options I had not thought of.

I think that the first thing I will check out is the Microsoft "Remote Assistance” suggestion. It sounds like what the computer support people in a place I worked used to change things on our computers.
