Just wondering is somebody would know 'for sure' if Apple is going to release an iPad which will also incorporate a camera.

I know in patent filings they have included that (on both sides) and not a big deal technically (given what is in the iPhone).

I want to order one but wonder what the 2nd gen iPad will offer that is better...anyone with a real inside scoop on this?

(I know the 1st gen has just been released but based on sales to date it wouldn't surprise me in the 2nd gen comes sooner than later) and I hate buying something only to have it out dated say 6 months later

the hobby needs more capitalism
Apple is extremely secretive.

Good luck on getting a insider scoop on the next gen iPad.

Your talking about computers fella. Six months is a long time. I don't think you meant outdated, just surpassed, but it always happens. When something has what you want or need or both buy it.

Happens ALL the time.
Back in '97 got my first State of the Art 'screaming fast' Pentium 2 desktop (that BTW still runs, in fact it runs better than new).
It was dated 6 months later when the Pentium 3 came out!

Such is the PC biz.....

Yet Apple has not been able to Launch its hot selling Ipad in 3rd, World Countries, where it is smuggled through other illegal channels, as its demand is so much, only in June, Apple sold another 3 million Ipads mostly in developed and known countries of the world, so for them it would take some time to release their 2nd, generation IPAD not before 2011. Tomorrow (July 30, 2010) Apple is finally launching their Iphone 4 over here in Canada, lets see how much demand is there for their new iphone, which has signal problems, plus some designing issue too with its antenna, and they are giving some case free to withhold those lost signal bars, i shall wait and see first, before fucking my $ 759 for a 32g new Iphone 4 my BB Bold 9700 is great and has no such issues at all, so just wait and see what happens to Iphone 4 once it is freely available over here in Canada.
To save their solid reputation Apple should immediately re-design their Iphone 4 and bring Iphone 5 soon into the market, so the suspicion their valued loyal clients have can be removed once and for all! By giving a case with a defective cell phone is not going to solve the technical issues.

absolutely Apple will release an iPad with a camera. I'm guessing early nest year, but who knows it could come sooner.

they might need a 2nd generation sooner rather than later.......

Class Action Lawsuit Filed Over Overheating iPads
These things get hot out there in the summer sun.
The iPad is a hot item, and it's not making its owners very happy with how it's not able to take the heat.

A class-action lawsuit filed in a U.S. District Court in the North District of California last week, accuses Apple of falsely advertising the iPad as an e-reader device when some users are finding that the outside ambient temperatures cause overheat-related shutdowns.

"Using the iPad is not 'just like a reading book' at all since books do not close when the reader is enjoying them in the sunlight or in other normal environmental environments," the complaint reads, according to AppleInsider. "The iPad overheats so quickly under common weather conditions that it does not function for prolonged use either indoors, or in many other warm conditions, for a variety of common uses such as, but not necessarily limited to, an e-reader, e-mail tool, Web browser and/or game/entertainment unit."

The suit involves all iPad-owning parties in the U.S., which means that Tuan will be keeping an eye on this one.

No issues so far.

There will certainly be a second generation iPad, and a 3rd I'm sure as well. The product is such a dramatic hit I'm sure they'll be at it for a while. You don't have to take it from me, take it from Steve Ballmer:

"Today, one of the top issues on my mind, hey there's a category -- tablets," Ballmer said, according to a transcript by Business Insider.

"Apple has done an interesting job. They've sold more than I'd like them to sell. We think about that," he said. "So it's our job to say, we have got to make things happen. Just like we made things happen with netbooks, we have to do that with Slates."

Growth for notebooks has fallen off a cliff: http://www.technewsdaily.com/images/stories/netbooks-morgan-stanley-100506-02.jpg

while iPad sales are bound only by the supply.

I think the netbook phase is over, in some ways I think M$ killed it by forcing the manufacturers to replace Linux with XP. The netbook finds itself in no-mans land, not much cheaper than a low end notebook (but with many limitations) and not the best instant-on surf the web tool (iPad).

Linux scared the bejesus out of M$!!!

M$ didn't want folks to get familar with Linux knowing once this happened they may dump Windoz.
So M$ gave XP a reprieve instead of killing off XP as they had planned. M$ then began loading XP on all them Netbooks that planned on using Linux.

Plus M$ wanted Netbooks to die ASAP since they were so inexpensive with little profit margins.

I agree with this, and I suspect that the pig XP exaggerated the limitations of a netbook.

While I think it will take a while I think Apple killed the netbook with the iPad - it remains to be seen if other vendors can match it or if it will be another iPod. I suspect most will focus on the HW (impressive specs) and forget the software/user experience - that's where this market will be won IMHO.

I use my Ipad for business applications and must say, though it's entertainment value is impressive, it doesn't handle the business demands I put on it.... just think about it, stuck in the apple ecosystem, only 1 application at a time...

wish it did, because it is the perfect size between mobility and usability... some other company is going to catch on and develop a business-class pad soon, I hope. for light computing duties it replaces a netbook, but only simple functions like point of sale, contact management, presentations, etc...

Actually XP is not a pig and only needs ~5 GB of space and runs relatively lean with 1 GB RAM and well on netbooks.
Vista OTOH is a pig needing ~30 GB of space and 3-4 GB of RAM to run well.

W7 is better suited to run on netbooks since it runs leaner than Vista.
That said Linux screams on any netbook since it is more efficient than XP, Vista or W7.
Plus if that netbook has a SSD it will boot up in ~15 seconds....
