so far it seems pretty evenly divided lol. I have to admit the one with the touch screen and the keyboard is interesting me.
The combination touchscreen and physical keyboard blackberry is rumoured but I don't think there is any solid info other than the codename (sometimes it's called Pluto, sometimes it's called Magnum), and certainly no release date...you could be waiting a while! If you are interested you can do some Googling on the Blackberry Pluto and Blackberry Magnum. There hasn't been any sightings or leaks other than some photoshopped pictures. I suspect it had to go into redesign because RIM is sorting out the new touchscreen system (piezoelectric) on the Storm2 first before using it in Pluto/Magnum. If I had to take a guess, it might not be until Q2 2010, maybe later.
The next Blackberries that will be released in Canada will be:
- Onyx 9700 (GSM/HSPA, for Rogers*) - this is the updated Bold, it has a physical keyboard and a small trackpad replacing the ball, but no touchscreen. Release date unknown, but probably October/November (the original bold was released October 2008)
*Actually, if Bell and Telus complete their HSPA network overlays quickly you might see the 9700 offered by them too (someone spotted the 9700 sku in Bell's ordering system)
- Storm2 (9520 GSM/HSPA for Rogers, 9550 CDMA for Bell/Telus) with an improved screen press mechanism called Truepress. The mechanism on the Storm1 called Surepress was terrible, I couldn't stand it. Rumoured to be released in November/December 2009 (The original Storm was released Dec 2008)
- a low-end Curve 8520, which will have a small trackpad instead of a ball. I think this one has already been released in the US. Not sure of the release date in Canada.
I have both an iphone and a blackberry, and while I like the iphone for certain things (the web browsing is unbeatable, the appstore is fun, the interface feels very modern compared to the blackberry), the bb never leaves my side, ever. But I use it for business and I have to send a lot of emails on the go, which I think brings the blackberry to another level - a blackberry linked to a BES server and Exchange account is quite different from a personal blackberry on BIS.
Anyways, you can't really go wrong with either an Iphone or a Blackberry, get one and start enjoying the ability to 'google' and surf the web wherever you are.
