The article doesn't mention a major "con" in my opinion: a non-replaceable battery. a) if you are away from home (and your charger) and the battery dies you are finished; b) you have to send it to Apple and pay through the nose for a replacement.

got to try a beta one out at CES in Vegas back in January... it was a very cool machine.

I'm sure because it is Apple, it will have a host of improvements come its way very shortly. I still don't have any use for owning one though.

What's the deal with surfing on your phone?
I'd find it aggravating on such a small screen.
Surfing on most handheld devices is aggravating but not so on the iPhone. You get a full-featured browser on the iPhone and ease with which you can zoom and scroll makes it quite fun and useful.

I personally don't surf much on my cellphone (a Blackberry) but only because it's slow and it's a pseudo-browser. Most pages don't render properly on a Blackberry so that actually limits its use as a browser.

I wouldn't want to surf all that often on a handheld, but on occasion it can be useful if you're on the road and need to check something out quickly. Also, at work we have a few web-based applications which would translate better on something like an iPhone with a full browser instead of the stripped-down things we get on Blackberry.

Having used the iphone for about 4 monthes in the states all i can say about the browser is it is not like any other handheld for surfing...it renders the page it would in your IE or Firefox...just shrinks down the images ....you can then zoom on what you want....my only con is the battery and lack of exchange support.... but it is the same as an ipod ...non changeable battery.

the great iPhone - or is it so great

iPhone - fergedaboudit. All reports really indicate it is more of a bust than a boom and for us here in Canada it may just be academic unless the greedy pigs of the SP's, and I am not referring to our lovely girls, get it together and offer a realistically priced data plan. They think that the $60 I pay for 25 megs of data is a deal -

Also for me to replace my BBerry will take a lot more than the iPhone - apple is too restrictive and I can't live with the battery issue and the lack of 3rd party access. Also - an 8 gig ipod - why would I give up my 60 gig ipod?

Now don't get me wrong I love technology almost as much as pussy but I think that I will be taking a pass on the iPhone.

PS Should be interesting as Comwave has been using iphone here in Canada for several years - if Apple ever makes it here "somone gonna get a hurt"

Some where in Cyber Space
Changing the power souce is not a problem, it's been hacked and you can find web sites that will walk you through the process of swaping the battery.
Wait a year and two and let's see what the other cell phone makers come up with. I wonder what Nokia or Samsumg will come up.

Now I'm a believer

I have recently had the chance to use an iPhone....and I am now a believer!
It is amazing. If you think of browsing on a phone as what the mainstream technology offers....then you are going to be blown away when you get your hands on it. The screen resolution is amazing and don't forget...the screen is the whole phone, not just part of the device. The touch screen works really well and the zooming in and out with your fingers is fantastic.
The features are as clear and easy to access and use as an Apple computer, but what would you expect. Two downsides...the battery, as has been mentioned, and the phone book doesn't have a search function...you have to scroll through the alphabet to get to your buddy whose name begins with X. Scrolling is quick and easy, just brush your finger up or down on the screen...but still, it is annoying.
I will hold out for the next generation coming this fall....but it is going to be on my Christmas wish list...along with some of the lovely ladies on this board!

Just by the way it looks, I don't think it'll rival the iPhone at all.
