Seems like the Wind phone company only operates on the 2100 MHz frequency. I'm wondering how good the coverage for North America is for this frequency. Anyone know?

i think i read somewhere, and i'm not interested enough to look it up, that only T-mobile uses the same frequencies as Wind. To me, Wind is a non-starter. Not even at the gate. Calgary Toronto only. not a world phone. not interested.

Wind does have a world phone, the GSM frequencies are quad band (850/900/1800/1900MHz)
Their 3G however, is AWS (1700/2100MHz) and will only work on T-Mobile's US 3G network but will be compaitble with most E.U. countries as well as Asian countries as well
T-Mobile's network is almost as big as AT&T's (Cingular) in the US.

yes, it seems that Wind has both 1700 and 2100 frequencies. So it seems that service in the US is covered nicely. However, Canada is another matter. The local sales person couldn't answer my question properly regarding their Home and Away designation. It seems that the only Home areas are within metropolitan Calgary and Toronto. And Away is outside of these areas. Even though they offer province wide calling without additional fees, it seems you can only make such province wide within the Home area without additional fees. Or so it seems... I need to speak someone a little be bit more knowledgeable...

That's how I read it too. It'll be very interesting to watch the crying columns over the next few months as the unwary get duped into paying gigantic roaming charges. All their ads say you could receive calls from anywhere. They do mention Calgary and T.O. but they don't say clearly that these are home. and no-where else is. Big joke on the consumer.
