Is the US still No.1?

Can you explain this to those of us who don't live in Canada?

OTB
You have put me on the spot here. Without getting too long winded, lets use a family analogy.

In a big extended family, at a family gathering or holidays, everyone will try play nice to each other, but obviously some cousins just won't like each other.

If a Toronto resident, is a Serbian-Canadian, or Iranian-Canadian, or Russian-Canadian, then we can explain why they might not like the USA.

However, there is really no good reason for the anti-Americanism of Canadians who have been here for generations. It exists. Not everyone feels the same way thought. Seems to me if one is a Canadian Liberal or a leftist, then they probably would have more anti-American inclinations than Canadian conservatives.

It's been with us so long it just seems like part of the landscape, like furniture. IMHO.

If you like to test it out, here is the best place to do it.

Just post something about how proud you Americans feel about your country. Or the Middle East and USA efforts for peace, anything on the Republican Party how they are better than those DemocRATS, ... then sit back and watch the Canadian indignation start to hit the fan.

I've seen it many times, I've always chalked up to a national Napoleon complex... I thought maybe you'd have some insight for me.

I think you are correct in your assessment. I think there is little doubt, except among those with the knee jerk anti-Americanism, that when considered as a whole the Us is the greatest nation on earth, warts and all. Many Canadians think it somehow elevates Canada to knock the US down.

I don't think many countries are #1, I'm certain many countries are each #1 is some single (or a few) metrics....

I don't see China as #1 economically, not even close - some day perhaps but you should look at real GDP or per capita GDP.... in no metric are they #1

OTB
If China wanted to have the same GDP per capita as the US, it would need around triple the US nominal GDP.

Nothing to disagree with but Trudeau's sleeping with an elephant analogy is more general and concise both; you guys are so often disturbingly unaware of how unpleasant, or even dangerous you can be. To the mouse you're sharing with even an innocent sneeze is not <{read with a 5-year old's sense of humour{ without serious consequences. A few 'Ooops, sorrys' or even waving a hanky in warning would help a whole lot.

And on the world scale, we're only the nearest mouse, not the only.

Could be worse, if not for the grace of God we could be living next door to Iran.
Next door to Iran's sworn enemy has its dangers too. And given the unattractive religious fervor currently so evident in both republics, I'd also wonder about the grace involved.

Live long and prosper.

That's right.
Cuz then we could have been Iraqis and we would have been invaded by the U.S.
We were. Two hundred years ago, they didn't have anyone else handy by. All water under the Peace Bridge now. Until they, or we start drawing 'continental security perimeters' or pipeline routes and such.

Geshundeit!

Ok, who do you prefer for our next door neighbour?
I'd actually like to be snuggled between France and Italy, but I can't see that has any relevance to anything. Why do you ask?

Wasn't there some sort of plan to float Canada down to the Caribbean?
Though I think I like your plan better.
