Are you a commissioner for administering an oath or swearing affidavits?

Do you know what a lawyer goes through before drafting an affidavit for his client to swear?

Perry
Well,
I've practiced law for 25years, sworn more than a few affidavits and cross-examined on quite a number as well.

Then you know damn well that you go into a "story" in depth before you draft the affidavit lest it turn out that you have prepared an affidavit full of half-truths... for which you are responsible!

And whatever form of oath you use, it requires you to ask the person swearing the affidavit that you have prepared if the contents are true and accurate in every respect... otherwise, the Law Society and the cops will be very interested in what you have done! :p

Jacobek is a lying weasel.

(With no offense to the furry creature who lives in the ground.)

This is not the first time this scum bag has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. I remember about 8 years ago him getting caught having "free" work done on his house in the beaches by several contractors who do work for the City of Toronto.

His response at the time was that he gave the Contractors a cheque but that they chose not to cash it.

I seem to remember him suing the globe and mail about them reporting the story.

Did anyone else notice the cover of the Globe and Mail today???

He he he. They have never let this scum bag out of their sights.

Plus, you just know that if he has been caught (twice now) that he's probably taken money about 2,000 times before that.

And the above is a long way short of claiming to be the "whole truth".

In the laboratory.
Great to see two lawyerly wizards arguing the basics of an affidavit. Inspires real confidence in the legal profession. :p

Well, if you prefer...

...every affidavit is an absolute work of pure truth and accuracy. The fact that completely opposing affidavits are sworn in most cases (ie Material matters) is simply one of life's little mysteries.

There is no point arguing with you.... I would much prefer to cross examine you and have you tell us more about your "position" -- which, with no disrespect to you personally, is what makes so many people think we are a sleazy profession!

Well, as there is no point in arguing with me, there would be no point in my replying to you. No disrespect intended, of course.

That person would need a comparable level of legal knowledge. How 'bout Alien? :p

Of course he's lying but that doesn't mean he's guilty. That's the beauty of our legal system here in North America. It's now a game by him to make sure the prosecutors can't pin anything on him and for Jakobek to cover every possible loop hole there is. We all know he's guilty, including the judging committee, but it's a matter of who can win the cat and mouse game. Don't believe me, ask OJ. You gotta love our system here if you're a criminal.

My sense is the newspapers are sensationalizing matters which helps to sell more papers, good for them. The real issue is who are the people at city hall who signed a contract without reading all the fine print? A considerable amount of taxpayor money ended up being wasted not because of Dash and Tom but because a proper review was not done. Personally I think Dash is the fall guy in this whole mess. Tom is toast, I sure hope his father in law's money holds out or grannie lives to 150 to keep writing cheques for disney holidays.

I'm not usually the sort of person to revel in someone else's misfortune but in the case of Jacobek he is getting what he deserves. I've lived in the beaches area for a number of years and have had a number of dealings with him. Suffice it to say that he is not on my list of favorite people. I'm tempted to say more but I think I will just let sleeping dogs "lie".

There is only one way to tell if a politician is lying.....

Look to see if his lips are moving.

I'm sure he's telling the truth.

Just like the rest of us, he has simply forgotten where $ 21,000 came from.

I do this all the time.

I think it shows us how corrupt yhe sytem really is and how far it reaches.

I wonder if the morons a Revenue Canada will even think to audit him.

My guess is no since it's much easier to screw a little business man/women who cannot afford to defend themselves.

Maybe Revnue Canada was on his payroll. It wouldn't be the first time.

The point is that he has so badly destroyed his own credibility that he cannot be believed... whether or not he is telling the truth about any particular matter at any particular time.
