I remember seeing a TV show(HGTV?) about an island I believe that was in the Caribbean and had tropical plants on one side whereas you could see a cactus on the other side.
Any idea of what the name of this island is?

Lots of islands in the Caribbean have the varied type of terrain you're looking for. Dominican Republic is one.

Aruba? I think Aruba is in the dry zone of the Caribbean.
It looks like you are right. I thought Aruba was all semi-arid, but I just found this:

Aruba is the Caribbean’s most revisited travel destination and there’s no surprise why! It was certainly the most diverse Caribbean island we have been to. One half of the island is a tropical paradise and while the other half is an arid desert! Also its way out of the hurricane belt so you are guaranteed good weather for the most part of the year. Planning a trip this spring/summer? Check out my things to do in my travel guide to this “one happy island” HERE.

For a bigger island that has all sorts of weather - its called Australia.

I saw all sorts of climactic zones when I was sent there for a work assignment for 3.5 years about two decades ago now.

The big island of Hawaii the Hawaiian chain is tropical on the east coast and quite arid on the West coast.

I was in Oahu recently for 2 weeks. Stayed in Waikiki. 2 weeks and very little rain. Never rained during the day the entire 2 weeks. Some rain at night but barely enough to get the ground wet. They could use some even on the northeast and east sides.

In addition to being a desert, it can get windy.

If you are a beach person, chances are good that sand will end up in your drink...
