Hello,

I am looking in getting into the business of buying large lots of off lease laptops and refurbishing them for sale. For those in who are purchase managers, how does your company deal with laptops at the end of their lease? Do you give them back to the manufacturer or do you do a buyout and sell them to wholesalers? Any help anyone can give me as to how to enter this business would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Bishop

What is your target audience with the refurbs? Why would I buy a 3 or 4 year old refurb laptop?

umm just looking into the procurement of laptops. There is no shortage of demand for used laptops. You might not want a refurb laptop but maybe a student who just wants to run MSWORD and surf the net might want a $500 laptop.

Anywhere but here
I know that Toshiba used to sell their returns refurbished directly to dealers. You need to call and get on the list to bid for the inventory. Compaq was the same. This info is about 2-3 years old, but I imagine the process is still the same/

GE was a rip off. Their lease rates were crazy! We just offloaded about 140 desktops to some school for a tax break instead...

GE Capital does ours, they aren't too bad... Expensive, but they are onsite doing the hardware work anyhow... When the machines are off lease they are wiped, refurbed and then GE sells them off.

Right now, we are starting to Cascade our Toshiba Tecra 8100's (P3 - 700 / DVD drive) for Tecra 9100's and M1/2's.

Basically the off lease stuff is still pretty good if you don't need bleeding edge.

We use Macs and send back about 450 every 3 years back to Apple and just swap for new ones with no extra cost other then maintaining the payments.
