Greetings,

I recently lost to vandals my Nokia N770 Internet tablet. So I am looking for a wifi tablet with some rudimentary MP3 playing features.

It looks like the iTouch 8G is the big player in this area. It is around $300 in many places. The Nokia N810 is a little higher priced and my N770 is no longer available.

I just want to make sure the iTouch or whatever I buy will surf the net (like checking out terb:)) and is not locked into a few map viewing sites.

Is there something similar? I do not want the bulk of a laptop and want to spend around $300. I would rather buy in the GT so I can look at the thing but I will order on line if I must.

Oops, I see I was not perfectly clear. I wanted a wifi tablet because there are no monthly fees. However, to surf, you need to find a hot spot and I have developed my sources for that.

My understanding is that the iPhone and its brothers have significantly monthly fees. I do not plan to use the tablet as a phone although if the monthly fees drop below about $50 including voice and data I would change my tune.

My apology, I was not reading your post carefully enough. Maybe the 2g iPhone would fit better if you do not mind it is a previously appreciated unit. You can use it as a phone and do not need to subribe to a data plan. Otherwise the iPod touch is a good device.

Remind you though the apple products have certain limitations such as flash is not supported.

Have you check out the wave of little pc started by the Asus epcee?

Just wondering if you had considered the N800.

Changes from the previous model on the first pages.

I couldn't find any bricks-and-mortar retailers but there were a number of second-hand units on Kijiji for around $200 or so. And Nokia is willing to sell you one over the net.
I don't know how I missed that. It is definitely in my range and I made an inquiry on Kijiji for one of them.

Do you know how they compare to the iTouch? Right off the bat, it looks like the Nokia has a much larger screen.

Thanks for the lead!

Sorry no experience with any of the devices ... just snoopy.
However, it seems to me that the iTouch is more machine than you need.
And the N800 has the advantage that you are familiar with the interface.

Just ran into the Archos 605 wifi at Canada Computers. Looks perfect, about $200. I have an outstanding offer in on a Nokia N800 but if I can get out of it gracefully, I will buy the Archos. Much bigger screen than the iTouch.

I suppose you are talking about the 605 4GB version.

The 605 30GB version is on sale at FS for $230 a pop FYI. Also, you probably have to shell out extra for add on software if you plan to surf on your Archos.

Yikes, you are right. The browser software and some of the video codecs are an optional purchase of $20ish.

Back to the Nokia.

Thanks for the help guys.
