Anybody else watch Ken Burns documentary on Johnson the last couple of nights. Like all of his films it was extremely well done and offered some excellent insight into Johnson's life and times. I'm posting the thread here instead of in the Sports forum as there was a definite hobbying connection. Johnson had a penchant for white SP's(which eventually led to his demise) who at the time (early 1900's) were referred to as "sporting women".

I wanted to watch it, but I couldn't find PBS on my Rogers cable and I didn't see it listed on channel 5 that scrolls down the listings. Am I stunned out or was it not available on Rogers?

It was on Rogers, shack. PBS is channel 61. I'm sure it will be on again.

Damn! I missed it

Please post if you see that they're running it again. The reviews for the book have been excellent; the reviews for the film not quite as kind.

I missed most of part two, but for all the time Buns allowed himself, there could have been more actual fight footage. Johnsons was among the earliest scientific boxers athletically way ahead of his day. You don't see the films very often.

unforgivable blackness was awesome. i loved all the pics of johnson in his racing cars smoking his big cigars. he was the original hip hopper, and he loved sticking it to the man.

interesting bit of trivia that the guy johnson won the title from was canadian.
