for any of you that are fans and listen to the 102.1 edge morning show...

wondering why the guys at the edge morning show have been on an extended vacation, word now slowly trickling out that the corus entertainment group, who own the station, have fired long-time morning show host jason barr. no reasons have yet to be given.

I haven't listened to CFNY since Humble and Fred left frankly.

I used to listen to nothing but CFNY, from the days of "the Spirit of Radio". Those days are sadly LONG gone.

Jason used to be "Danger Boy" on CFNY with Humble and Fred. He used to do this fake Scottish accent which was spot on, however, when Blundel came on board, he dropped the fake accent. I've never been able to stomach Blundel. I find his show to be toilet (bowl) humour and not that funny frankly. I now listen to Derringer on Q107 in the mornings. (Both Q107 and 102.1 are owned by Chorus.)

When Martin Streek was fired from CFNY (and subsequently committed suiciide - Rest in Peace Martin, you were the last of my CFNY heros) there was nothing left on CFNY. It's all crap now.

Chorus has killed CFNY (figuratively and literally). They are just a bunch of corporate wienies frankly.

I think that the youngins today remind me of the "disco-boys" when I was a teenager. It's all about "pop music" - as witnessed by the crap that 99.9 plays and the former "Jack FM".

If you keep an eye on Fred Patterson's website, you may find your answer shortly.

(though Fred is getting to be a bit of windbag frankly.)

BTW, Bill Hayes (brother of John Derringer) has left Q107 (I wonder whether he wanted to go, got sick of his little brother, or found a better gig)

He has surfaced at AM 640 - also another chorus station.

I started to listen to NYFM in the late 70's, just before it became the Spirit of Radio. I hired the husband and wife team to DJ a youth convention in the early 80's. And I have been fortunate enough to sit with Ted Woloyshyn and have a few and "remember the good old days" of the Masden Woloyshyn programme. I miss Lardette.

Although I continued to listen to CFNY (and it is still programmed in my car) up until just over a year ago, it lost its way and has become just another commercial money making station with little regard for experimentation or challenging the listeners.

These days, I've decided to become my parents and listen to the music of my youth. I am listening to Boomer Radio (hits of the 60s 70's and 80's) and Vinyl 95. I occasionally listen to CFNY, but usually change the dial quickly.

I don't see anything on Fred Patterson's website, but given that he's currently working for Chorus in Peterborough, he'll probably keep his mouth shut.

Though he does specificially mention and thank Jason Barr on his webiste on the "about me" tag, so I bet friend knows the deal.

Live Earl Jive and Beverly Hills?

Yeah, on regular radiio, I pretty much only listen to CBC (1 and 2) and 107. The rest is just utter crap.

I have XM and Channel 44 takes me back to my youth. (Like my mother used to listen to her music of her era)

The demise and destruction of CFNY is probably the saddest thing on radio. They used to be the one shining light. Humble and Fred, Peat and Geets, Dani Elwell, May Potts, Dan Duran, Dave Bookman, Brother Bill, I could go on and on. (But it only makes me melancholy. Especially Martin.)

Terrestrial radio blows donkeys.

You just won't realize how much so until you get satellite radio. Then you'll be like, "How the fuck did I listen to that garbage on regular radio???"

you hit the nail on the head exactly, I got my Sirius a couple of years back and its the best thing I ever purchased!!! When it comes to music I am all over the place and it gives me that opportunity. The best is the no commercials and no annoying dj's with their stupid toilet humour and jokes that sound like they were written by an 8th grader.

Cant stand Bubba the Love Sponge, he's nothing more than Southern Fried Derringer.

The best morning program, by far, is Radio 2 Morning on CBC Radio 2 (940), Bob Mackowycz is informative and entertaining without ever throwing effluence at you. It's adult radio for adult listeners. You haven't heard Canadian music, in all it's richness and variety, unless you've listened to Bob's program. It's better than the Kim Mitchell/OLP/Bryan Adams Axis that has such a stranglehold on commercial radio, plus I do not have to pay the extra tax for satellite radio. I don't have a problem with my tax money going into such high quality programming.
