i’m curious to see where this is going. Lol.

You know me too well, LOL. OK.

Romano is 27 of 30, this year. 90%. For his career he is 86 of 96 over parts of 3 seasons, which is 89.6%

Rivera is consensus all-time greatest closer.

Career save percentage is 89.1%

Obviously Rivera did it over 19 seasons so there's no comparison in that sense. But this is no lucky hot streak or small sample size for Romano. It's a solid result for the entirety of his career to this point. His numbers have been like this since Day 1. There's been no major ups or downs. He's been consistent. What more can he do? What more can the fan base expect of him to not get all the negativity? I find it rather perplexing.

Like I said, he may blow every save opportunity for the rest of his career for all I know. I'm not making any long term declarations or even short term predictions, but for all the chance he's had to demonstrate his ability, he's done admirably. When he started as a closer, if anybody told you that these would be his stats to this point, every fan would have been elated. Like I said, adjectives like elite mean nothing. His results have been excellent, is all I'm saying.

BTW, I know you loved Henke, as we all did. His career save %age was 85%

In order to obtain Shohei Ohtani, the Jays would have to give up probably 4 of their top prospects ( Tiedeman, Martinez, Barger and Zulueta, let’s say) plus maybe Kirk and Espinal and maybe Varsho. That's what it will take to get the greatest ever player in baseball history, as some are calling him.

Mentioning Romano and Rivera in the same breath is blasphemy

Rivera's post season stats when facing the best teams with the most amount of pressure are other worldly.

Having said that I do like Romano. Especially at 4.5 million per season. Check out what other top closers are getting

I wonder if the Jays would entertain bringing in David Robertson as a set up man. He's a UFA after the end of this year and the Mets aren't going anywhere.

This season deadline is a sellers market so I say trade our FAs for some talent to replenish our depleted farm instead of depleting it some more and consider the future instead of the remote chance of getting to the show as we stand a solid chance of not even getting a WC

I'll wear that title of blasphemer with pride.

FYI, I'm not comparing the two to each other. I'm using Revera's numbers as a baseline with which to assess Romano's performance. In Riviera's 19 years, he only topped Romano's 90% save rate 6 times.

The only blemish was that WS losing blown save to Arizona in 2001......................... One of my happiest ever baseball moments. 😹

After the current series with the Dodgers, the Jays have a favourable schedule until September 10, (Home: Angels [3], Cubs [3], Phillies [2], Guardians [3], Nationals [3], Royals [3]; Away: Red Sox [3], Guardians, [4], Rockies [3], A's [3], as well as three Away vs the Reds and two three game series against the Orioles. Several of these opponents could have weaker lineups by the time the Jays face them.

Their last eighteen games are against the Rangers, [4], Red Sox [3], six vs the Yankees, and five vs the Rays.

I can't see them adding any rental players of note, so the only help they can expect is from the injury list.

There's a chance that top prospect Ricky Tiedemann could be a factor late in the season. He last pitched for AA New Hampshire on May 4, but he did pitch in low A Florida Coast League on July 21, two perfect innings with 3 K's. Although Ricky is a starter, don't rule him out being a late inning reliever THIS year, after roster expansion.

Ricky Tiedemann minor league stats.

btw, Adam Macko, the guy acquired with Eric Swanson for Teoscar Hernandez, is having a dog shit year at Vancouver in high A, (6.20 ERA in 13 starts/ 53.2 innings. He is only 22, though, and a lefthander, so it's too early to label him a stiff.

LOL

Daulton Varsho does run like Steven Seagal. We are truly blessed to watch El Gran Capitan's blazing speed on the basepath, it's a once in a lifetime joy.

Clutch win by the Jays tonight, these are the necessary games to take if the post-season beckons. I sense that Vlady is going to go off tomorrow. He's going to return the favour to BoBochette who's going through a dry spell. The Italian/Brazilian did the same for him when Vlady was in dumps around Victoria Day.

This is stupid. Had we kept Superstar Anthony Bass we could have traded him for Ohtani.
Last I checked, Bass had a sex change and was trying to make it as a reliever in Lady's League softball. Odds are 50:50.
