Just heard a interview with Avs beat reporter ... He says Finger at best would have been Avs 6th defenseman ....

Congrats to Jeff Finger .... Hey if somebody offers you 3.5 million dollars to play hockey for the Leafs who is he too say no ... So don't get pissed at him when he doesn't live up to a 3.5 million dollar defenseman ... Get pissed at the
Leafs for being stupid ...
Oh the beat writer said so....it must be true then.

So is it too late add Jeff Finger to that Greatest Defensmen thread poll?

Guess the 3.5 mill wasn't enough to lure Bill Root out of retirement so they had to settle...

I just can't get past the fact that he made 475 K last year and I heard at least 4 NHL management people quoted through the media ( certainly not empirical I know ) today saying he would have garnered 600- 800 K on the open market.

I keep shaking my head thinking he seems to be worth 3.5 million OVER four year as opposed to 3.5 million per year.

This Kid s going to be under some serious scrutiny here. The 1st time he messes up he will be booed unmercifully.

Hey, maybe we're all wrong and Cliff is as smart as a fox.

And how much have you seen him play? Do you really know how good he is?
If he can play 72 games with Colorado i'd say he is good enough to be on the Leafs.
I actually have seen him play quite a bit and he is a good defenceman but Cliff paid way too mich for him. I hope Cliff proves me wrong (money-wise).

Can you name a good player from this century...lol..

So far on the defensive side we have:

Kaberle
Kubina
Fingers
McCabe
Coliaccavo
Stralman
White

Remove McCabe from this list. The leafs guys keep saying that he will not be playing for the leafs this year. I hear the leafs are getting one more defenceman as well mabye more details to come later today???

Jeff Finger is what he is .... He is a good serviceable defenseman and is the same defenseman who was making less then 1 million last season ... We now assocaiate players with how much they make ...
Cliff said on the Fan this morning that 6 other teams offered the same amount as the Leafs did. If you want the guy you have to pay the price, it's not like the Leafs are up against the cap.

D-men have made off like bandits this off-season!

Don't forget about our 2008 first round draft pick....Luke Schenn...

Some analysts are saying that the Leafs can build a team around him.....

let Cliff do his thing, when the season progresses then we can start bashing him for the moves...

I say this only because Cliff did his thing here in the early 90's...we almost got to the cup if it was'nt for that non call highstick on Gilmour by Gretzky, that should have been a 4 minute major,it could have been a great year for the Leafs....

I met Cliff downtown one morning at a Druxys...he was having a coffee and reading the paper. I approached him and had a small chat...I asked him who's going to take the cup this year, he called Anaheim, told me that team is crazy with talent, they ended up winning it ...I then asked him with a laugh , "when he was comming back to fix our Leafs again" he had a chuckle to ... well here he is ...too much

he's a nice guy and a smart hockey guy , hopefully he can work some magic again.

regarding salaries... it's the market ,if you want someone you have to pay for them...I have'nt seen Finger play but he is at prime age.... Fletch and others must have seen something in him to warrant a huge pay increase....not only is a players talent most important but also his charachter in the dressing room(maybe he fits well there)...there is alot that goes on behind closed doors that we never know about...bad seeds can ruin a team...we all know that

This is another example of how cowards would take free shots at public figures by using these kinds of one liners; I call them cowards because they want to inflict insults on these players but they are too scared to give any reasons to back up their bashing as they may themselves be subject to retribution.

Players are always in the limelight but they are humen too. As a fan you have every right to bash a player hard for his poor performance, but Schenn hasn't even played a single game in the NHL and you already labelled him as "a pylon" ? How well do you know him ? How many games have you watched him played in the Juniors ? What qualifications do you have to demean a young player when so many other pro scouts and general managers rate him as one of the top ten prospects in this draft ?

If you know something we the average fans don't know about this player, then let's hear it; but it would be very unfair to Schenn if you bashed him just because you didn't like Cliff Fletcher.

I'm pretty sure that 21pro was kidding about the Leaf's First Round Pick....

Unless he had a change of heart about Luke Schenn....21pro had this to say about Scheen in another thread:

"Personally, I really, really like Luke Schenn out of all of them... sure, Bogosian and Doughty are NHL ready studs, but Schenn's defensive proweress and mean streak is what I drool to have on my team." - 21pro from the thread "which of these D will go 1st?"

Retribution?? Are you aware that this is an anonymous message board? What "retribution" do you have in mind? That your anonymous terb handle with out-argue someone else's anonymous terb handle?

dont workers work WITHIN the pylons not around them. Sort of defeats the whole purpose of them if you work on the outside of them

I suppose "retribution" was too strong of a word, but I just thought these people are just too chicken to give reasons for their insulting remarks because they had absolutely no clues why they said what they said and thus didn't want to expose their own ineptness.
