Years ago I attended a private party where Matt Minglewood, Burton Cummings, and Jeff Healey played to a close knit crowd on behalf of a mutual friend's birthday party. I met Jeff that night along with his beautiful girlfriend who was always such a huge part of his life. I always knew that I could pop into Healey's to here some good live music, which now I regret to say will have to last in my memories. Truly a loss to Canadian music, and perhaps one of the most unique guitarists of our time. RIP Jeff. :(

He will be missed.

Was anyone else at Healey's when he performed an impromptu gig with Joe Walsh?

Truly a Canadian icon. One of a kind.
The man had presence, even made a movie like "Roadhouse" more interesting.

Talented and humble. You won't hear anyone say anything negative about him because he was a sincere guy who treated everyone with respect. This is very sad.
RIP

I first saw him years ago when he and his Jazz Wizards were guests on Stuart McLeans Vinyl Cafe radio show. That night was a double taping of the show and Jeff was featured along with Molly Johnson http://www.mollyjohnson.com/about.htm.

For $25 it was a great evening at the CBC studios. McLean mentioned that Jeff played for free every Saturday afternoon at his bar so the next weekend we headed down to Queen & Bathurst for 4PM. Arriving at 330 PM we found the place packed but we stood for the next 3 hours to enjoy the live jazz from the 20's to 40's that was Jeff's passion. Over the last 3 years we went back about 10 times...it was always a fun afternoon / evening.

Too bad that the talent is silenced.

He was on the same flight with me on the way back from Halifax...he sat just across from me. I talked to him for a bit. He was a very gentle giant. He was kind and didn't seem to mind all my music questions I had. I loved the way he played...just seem so happy and in another world when he was played his music. Sad day for sure.

Jeff has gone on a break to "drain the main vein".

Who remembers that line from Roadhouse?

I never heard him play horn, but he was also supposed to be a very good trumpet player as well as guitar.

RIP Jeff.

Back more years than I care to remember, I was working at the student pubs at Carleton U in Ottawa. We had the Jeff Healey Band play a couple of times. I remember the first time I saw him play - didn't know anything about him at that time - and I was blown away. Between sets it was my "job" to make sure they had what they needed and I got to chill with them during and after the show. He was a gentleman and will be sorely missed.

A sad day for all JH fans. My friend was supposed to go see him on Saturday night at the Centrepointe theatre in Ottawa, I found out through him that he had collapsed and was in the hospital on Saturday night, it was a terrible thing to find out that he didn't make it through.
