Jim Johnson has passed away

My thoughts on Jim Johnson are well documented on the various football threads on terb. I have freqently referred to him as one of the best DCs in this league on many occasions. I absolutely loved this guy's blitz packages. He had an array of exotic blitzes and seemed to know just went to call them at the right times. Love Jim Johnson as a coach. I am not repeating anything here that I havent already said during the football season on the various threads but along with Dick Lebeau, Rex Ryan and Monty Kiffen (now in the college ranks), Jim Johnson was one of my favorite DCs in the league.

I knew he was battling cancer but I did not know he was this close to death.

It will be very difficult to replace him in my opinion. The Bears 46 defense might still be there but as far as the actual play calling and timing of those play calls, Sean McDermott has got some big shoes to fill.

His defenses were so complex. I loved his defenses as well. It was like he was made to be a DC. The league still has some great minds with Lebeau and Rex Ryan, and Belichick. Granted Belichick is the Head Coach but his finger prints are all over that defense. It is not uncommon to see NE games and see Belichick with his back turned to the field at times and talking to his defensive players when the offense and/or STs is on the field.

I live in Phila...this is sad news,i loved his defenses and the Eagles for many yrs...I never thaught he was this serious,read the news on the web,just after hearing on sports radio in Philly he was in serious condition..I pay trbute to him and pray for his family...Dawkins who we let leave,i hope has some comment on Mr.Jimmie Johnson....Rich
