I just got home from work and was reading The UK Sun's website at www.thesun.co.uk and I read that John Peel has died of a heart attack in Peru. This is sad. Many, many past, current and future musical acts owe their career to John Peel and the Peel Sessions on BBC Radio 1. Bowie, Hendrix, T-Rex, The Pogues, The Undertones, Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, and many more were all heard for the first time, were championed by John, and/or were influenced by the acts he played. I listened to his shows religiously in the mid-90s while working in the UK and continue to listen to his shows through the BBC Radio 1 website when I have the opportunity. He will be missed!
