Jordan Peterson enters rehab after wife’s cancer diagnosis

Jordan Peterson, the Canadian psychologist and anti-political-correctness crusader, has checked himself in to rehab in New York, his daughter has revealed.

The “12 Rules for Life” author has sought help trying to get off the anti-anxiety drug clonazepam, his daughter Mikhaila Peterson said in a video posted to her YouTube account Thursday.

“I’ve never seen my dad like this,” the 27-year-old diet blogger said in the eight-and-a-half-minute video. “He’s having a miserable time of it. It breaks my heart.”

The elder Peterson, 57, began taking the addictive medication to deal with stress from his wife’s battle with cancer and other health problems earlier this year, his daughter said.

He tried to quit cold-turkey over the summer after his wife, Tammy Roberts, “miraculously” recovered from complications with a kidney surgery, Mikhaila said.

But he went through “horrific” physical withdrawal that has left him looking “like a lost puppy,” she said.

“He decided to check himself into a place because he didn’t want to stress mom out, wanted to get off of this as quickly as possible, and honestly needs the medical help,” said Mikhaila, who has used her YouTube channel to promote her all-meat “Lion Diet.”

Peterson is getting weaned off clonazepam at the unidentified rehab facility with other drugs that will help abate the withdrawal, Mikhaila said.

She added that she had a similar withdrawal struggle when she tried to get off Oxycontin as a teenager. At one point it made her

The controversial University of Toronto professor has been open about his previous struggles with depression, which he has battled since his teen years.

He’s said he beat it back with the meat-heavy diet his daughter encouraged him to adopt. Cutting out greens altogether improved both his mental and physical health, he said in an interview last year.

“I’m better now probably than I’ve ever been in my life, and I haven’t been taking anti-depressants for a whole year,” Peterson said in a July 2018 episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.

LOL! That's not what he told people and he, and his daughter, were more than open about their lives. So, the glee is disingenuous and, frankly, small.

Shocking, a professional psychologist seeks medical help for a medical problem. I don't see an issue. What has the world come to?

So this is the video his daughter put up on YouTube detailing what the status is with her family.

They wanted to be truthful so as to clear up any potential tabloid fake news stories.

It seems that after a terminal kidney cancer diagnosis to his wife Dr. Peterson was prescribed the Benzodiazepine clonazepam to deal with the anxiety. For those who don't know they grew up together and have been married for 30 years.

With good fortune she has had her kidney removed and is cancer free for now. However there was a complication during surgery which caused further issues but that now has been resolved. So things are looking good for his wife.

As for Dr. Peterson well things took a turn for the worse when he tried to go off the prescribed Anxiolytic medication Clonazepam. The side effects of withdraw are quite crippling. So he checked himself into treatment and is on his way to recovery.

Anybody disparaging someone else in this situation is beyond disappointing and just points the the general hatred and lack of empathy that consumes some people.

WOW! He got hooked!?

As he talks about psychedelics and admits use he is an expert in knowing they are used for such issues as cancer as they help you accept the situation. I am curious if they tried to resolve their anxiety with their use of psychedelics

He could make himself a great case study on psychedelics as they also get you off of addiction, at least that is what he states

I would be one of those who would often disagree with Dr Peterson...but that doesn’t matter. Depression, anxiety, and addictions affect many people. I’m glad to hear Dr Peterson is getting some help and I wish him well. But for the Grace of God that could be any of us.

Dr. Peterson is known for disparaging others and telling others to basically "man up" in this cruel world. I find it ironic that someone like him got hooked on drugs because his mental toughness was not strong enough, despite he himself being a huge proponent for others to have that type of fortitude. I am very much in favor of people seeking treatment, but this snake oil salesman is a joke who shouldn't be giving advice others on something he himself cannot handle.

I thought he was known for standing up to bullshit.

You have any examples of him “disparaging others” or does not embracing compelled speech laws qualify?

So that's why people get hooked on prescription drugs? Because they are not strong enough.

Thanks for letting us in on that. SMH.

I saw this in my news feed and I am glad his wife is doing better. Losing a loved one is tough especially to such nasty disease like cancer. I hope she remains cancer free and can be around for her family a long time.

Many of us are strong but sometimes in this life we get hit so hard it is impossible to remain strong. No one is perfect. As this week has shown us with the Trudeau blackfacegate scandal we shouldn't throw stones if our house is made of glass.

Anxiety and depression drugs are very helpful but very addictive. I know people that have been on them for years and likely can't get off them now. If he can get off them that will be best for him and his family in the long run.

You're a horrible person. I might disagree with a lot of Lefties, but I'll never wish misery upon them or laugh at their health problems

I wish him well in his struggles with addiction. I have seen such struggles up close in my life and it is not pretty to watch. That said, you could see this coming from a mile away. The volume of his publications, the gross over-simplifications of science and history, massive leaps across disciplines, confused connections between different intellectual ideas, continuous confrontations with students, the press, and academics speaks to someone suffering from an untreated mania mixed with a bit of paranoia. All of this could be hugely amplified with drug use and long term dependency. I hope he gets over this addiction but also gets the psychological treatment he seems to be crying out for.

People get hooked on a lot of things, not just drugs. His solution to life's problems are to man up. However, minorities and women are just imaging the previous history of discrimination against them. This guy is a snake oil salesman.
