People get hooked on a lot of things, not just drugs.
And that's because according to you they are not ''mentally tough enough'' right? It's got nothing to do with the addictive nature of prescription meds does it?Some champion of the marginalised you are.

His solution to life's problems are to man up.
That's the second time you have used the phrase ''man up". Actually he doesn't say that once in his entire book. Not once.
What he does say, Is '' aim to be the person at your father's funeral that everyone, in their grief and misery, can rely on.''
He's talking about helping others........

That's because that's what it is according to Peterson.
That's what happens when you virtue signal to the max, ask JT.

I wish him well in his struggles with addiction. I have seen such struggles up close in my life and it is not pretty to watch. That said, you could see this coming from a mile away. The volume of his publications, the gross over-simplifications of science and history, massive leaps across disciplines, confused connections between different intellectual ideas, continuous confrontations with students, the press, and academics speaks to someone suffering from an untreated mania mixed with a bit of paranoia. All of this could be hugely amplified with drug use and long term dependency. I hope he gets over this addiction but also gets the psychological treatment he seems to be crying out for.
Lmao valiant effort, but few are going to buy your over-the-top critique of this wonderful man.

He has many quotes, he doesn't need to actually say man up when he's telling people to stand up straight and be tough. His audience is primarily white men.

He's given a very simple solution to overcoming addiction, which is replacing it with something else. It's very easy to find clips of him saying this. Apparently this is not for him and when he comes back he will most likely change his approach.

If it's easy to find clips of him saying the idiotic and/or simplistic things that you claim, post them.

You're doing it again. He's not talking about being tough he's talking about being accountable. There's a big difference.

But I will agree you that I'm sure coming back he with alter and revise his advice on overcoming addictions.

What does he mean by being accountable?

Chapter 8 of his book ''12 Rules For Life'' is ''Tell the Truth-or, at least, don't lie.''

Chapter 2. ''Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping.''

Chapter 6. '' Set your house in perfect order before you criticise the world.''

You get the general idea. He's all about taking responsibility for your life.

Jordan has said that the only cure to alcoholism was through religion. Guess god only works for alcoholics and not other addictions.

Shocking, a professional psychologist seeks medical help for a medical problem. I don't see an issue. What has the world come to?

Exactly.

Extreme situational anxiety such as would be experienced in Peterson's case where his wife has recurring life threatening cancer and complications is a normal human condition. Especially with a thinking man and someone with normal human emotions. (hence the reason people like those disparaging Peterson in this thread not being able to empathisize)

Seeking medially prescribed pharmacological help with an anti-anxiety medication such as clonazepam is quite common to help those in such unfortunate circumstances.

Problem is that clonazepam is both the perfect drug for these circumstances (very effective to reduce anxiety without sedative effects like other benzodiazipines such as Valium or Xanax), but in some persons also can induce very adverse reactions when you no longer need it and try to stop. These problems can be so severe in those whose chemistry that it is almost impossible to get through it without medical assistance. This happened to a good friend of mine (very successful, intelligent and disciplined) and the only thing that worked was to go into an in-patient clinic and be tapered to an alternative medication and then off. Dr. Peterson would likely have recognized that he was having severe withdrawal symptoms so was wise enough to go get professional help and not try to do it by himself. The world is full of people who thought they were strong enough to get off opiate painkillers through willpower than admitting themselves into a medical facility. Many of them are dead now after their Doctor's stopped prescribing it and they went to the street. Bravo to Peterson for seeking proper medical help when he needed it. Given his public profile, I'd say it shows tremendous character.

It sounds like what Charlemagne is saying, in a more clinical way.
Not saying there isn't any value to it of course.
Frankly the Ch.6 heading is stupid and unforgiving, who the fuck has there house in perfect order?
I admire Peterson for some of the stands he's taken and I agree with some of his thinking but
he is no apostle to the truth.
And now he's getting backlash for his virtue signaling as JT is.
I sincerely wish him a speedy recovery, but I also hope that he will realize that people are
an extension of an imperfect humanity, not just something formulaic.

At the very least I wouldn't expect you to agree with my criticisms and actually your dismissiveness gives me comfort that I am probably closer to the truth. if you did agree with me I would really have to reassess my judgement. I have not the slightest doubt he is manic and I stand by my critiques. I will admit he is charismatic and that is what helps him get away with academic sophistry... I mean, who take seriously the tired and old chestnuts like "set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world", or make your bed or "treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping.'' if people treat these vapid suggestions as somehow profound it must surely be from a lack of disciplined reading and study in their life.

3 minute mark he talks about the miracle cure of magic mushroom for addiction

Th question is why does he not try it? They are doing legal studies on it so he should pull some strings and get in on a study or just try it. He admits to having done psychedelics. Even if he has a bad trip they are often the most productive as you deal with issues and he knows everyone comes back to baseline. If it works he can become the poster boy for legalization. Although he may be better off doing them himself as studies are restrictive

BTW, psychedelics are clearly non addictive nor can you OD

lol I don't know Peterson much, but somehow I doubt he ever said minorities and women never faced discrimination.
See, I don't trust a damn thing you say. As far as I'm concerned, you're as biased as the right-wing lunatics on this board, just on the opposite side of the scale. Just as closed-minded, with the same level of tunnel vision. Why would we give a fuck what someone like that says?

I've listened to some Peterson podcasts and I the 12 Rules. I always thought that the stuff that I listened to was anchored in logic and pretty reasonable. I remembered what he said about women. A talking head said that women have been discriminated against throughout history and Peterson responded (and I'm paraphrasing) Women didn't have to fight in the trenches of WWI. He explained that he thought men and women worked together throughout history to survive.

See, that I believe he said. From what I recall from back in 2018 when his name first came to light, he believes men and women have fundamental roles to play in society.

I've never heard Peterson claim to be perfect and have everything in his life in order. It would seem to me that knowing you have a problem and seeking help is "manning up".
