Sold a bunch of furniture and other items when a remodel was done, what I learned was mark everthing up $50 bucks because everyone and I mean everyone will try to knock you down $50 bucks

Oh and have every change option, as no one brings the right amount of money

Did you get too many useless enqueries? Any crank calls? What about letting strangers on to your premises (robbery, assault,?)? To post the ad did you have to use your real name?

P.S. I have a bit of experience on the buy side but never so far on the sell side.

Got a bunch of emails offering silly low offers that I just ignored...never really thought of robberys, but did have all meetings Saturday mornings and sale items were in my garage so no one was in house...I am pretty sure you can use any name to post sales, just need a proper email addy and used my cell for contact..

I think because of the nature of the items I sold had more women purchasing the things and all went pretty smooth

That's good to know. Don't want a bunch of strangers to know my real name as well as my address. The garage is a good idea but there are also people who break into garages. (It's already bad enough with these young EI women knocking on my door asking to inspect my water heater.)

As a rule I wouldn't let anyone into my home.
There are a lot of evil people out there, unfortunately.
And I fear evil people do peruse the Kijiji ads. The worse case was that poor man murdered trying to sell his truck.

Snatch and grab robberies of cellphones and now Jordan sneakers, even though you meet the prospective "buyer" in a public place like Tim's.

sold a half ton, no problems. lots of responses, it went quickly. Having said that, I live 100k NE of Toronto and while there are schmucks here, a lot less than you will probably encounter in Toronto.

I sold 3 items and had no problems, a binocular, a capacitor and some birkenstocks. Then I put up ads for a 27' TV/Monitor and a older laptop, I'm getting all kind of stupid replies like: will you meet me in the subway, knock it off half price. The best thing is ask them to add their phone number if serious. But nobody comes to my place. I think police stations are making available a room for kiji people to do their business.

This is a great idea. Should I give my local police station a call? Will the police ask where I got the stuff and where I live and my real name and do I have to collect HST?

P.S. I've participated in some yard sales but always at one of my neighbor's place never my own place. The trouble with yard sales is that it is only one day and the pool of potential customers is restricted only to passerbys.

I sold a pile of things that were of no use to me anymore. I took good photos, if you have motors, make sure you get clear placard photos to back up your description. Priced them right and had no issues. My only issues are with hagglers, when you have already priced the item to move, thinking they will get it for a lower price. If you do this, do as I've done, tell them to go elsewhere, if they know the product, they already know that they are getting a good deal and tell them that you've already had several inquiries already. They usually pull the wad of cash out immediately. If they persist, tell them to leave and that they are wasting your time. Everything gone within a week.

I've had 3-4 good experiences and 1 bad experience. The bad was someone trying to hustle me down; i.e., agreeing to a price, then trying to change it later. I really enjoyed selling it to someone else. Otherwise it's been good.

Generally speaking people are very cautious about being ripped off (as they should be). As a seller, you need to put them at ease by doing things like posting lots of piks, being very detailed in your description, and accurate in the item's condition. When it sells, take it down otherwise you'll keep getting calls.

I was actually quite surprised how quickly some items sold. I was expecting it to take weeks but I had calls within hours in some cases. When I sold my unopened Xbox One before Xmas I practically had a bidding war. Which brings me to another point...

Timing is everything. I sold potential gift items before Xmas without any problems. I sold an old exercise bike in January when everyone starts looking to work out again. Put some thought into it and you'll maximize your payout.

Personally, I make them come to me (put "pickup only" in the item description) so I don't end up wasting traveling to a no-show. It also helps weed out the people who aren't serious. And it shows you're not desperate to sell; if they can't come to you, too bad so sad.

Finally, make sure you have the price nailed down before meeting. Otherwise be prepared to get haggled down. I always set my price beforehand and if they show up and try to haggle I pack up and start to walk away; I've never had anyone refuse to pay the agreed upon price when they saw I was ready to walk (again, that's why you make them come to you).

Overall, I would recommend Kijiji and I plan to use it again in future when I have stuff to sell.

I sold a few items as well, it's the stupid low ball offers that piss me off. The buyer was to it cheap so they can resell or they think you need a crack fix.

You get quire a few cheap shits. Ask for their number in ad, reduces the time wasters. I only sold a few small items. I all ways meet the buyer at a public place. Never at my home. Bigger items may not work but move it out to a garage. Or to your vehicle if u can and meet at a public place.

Sold a bunch of camera lenses, headphones, cameras, games (unopened collector's edition), etc. stuff I buy but end up not really using...

I get all walks of life depending on the item - usually meet in a public place and never had any issues.

You get your low ballers for every item, but I just ignore them. I think it's its a item with value, it will eventually sell.

I've bought a couple of computers and a couple of cars, all worked out quite well, though through craigslist generally.

Feedback from the field is generally positive so far.

One of my neighbors asked me to post an ad in Kijiji for him but with me as the middleman/contact because he can barely speak, read or write English. I assume all business on Kijiji is in English?

Sold a cellphone and purse on Kijiji with no problems. People definitely try to low ball but there are decent people wiling to accept a reasonable price with little to no haggling. Always meet and exchange in a very public place.

They don't do it . I called them when my friend want to sell a diamond ring, but they laughing and told is not in their profile. So don't hope to get help from the police. They want to charge you not to help you.

Always state clearly in your ad the price is firm and non-negotiable. Then when you exchange emails with the buyer tell him again no haggling when you meet up to complete the sale.

And as others have said police stations are great for meeting up if you're selling something expensive. You might not even have to go inside the station, the entrance doors or front facing street is probably good enough because there will be cop cars everywhere
