I just think that it's ludicrous that members of a forum who partake in a "hobby" that might be frowned upon by the masses are so quick to judge another "hobby".

What's wrong with a hobby where you tinker with your car?

While I've never modded anything *yet*, I can easily see myself doing so in the future. A chip for a few extra HP. A tighter suspension. Exhaust. Why not?

I ain't no 20 year old kid, that's for sure. And I've toyed with the idea of picking up an M3. But this wouldn't diminish the fun of playing with a cheap Honda or V-Dub.

These preconceived notions of what you must be like for considering modding are as dumbass as the notion that we are all trenchcoat wearing, deprived, stuttering, hairy-palmed psychos who couldn't get a woman otherwise.

They're just wrong.

Except for Goob.

I used to be a hardliner against souping up imports, i see some kid slapping fart cans and big wings on a 15 year old civic and always laughed at them.

Well now I drive an older style civic and I must say the idea of modify the car is growing on me, maybe nice rims and a turbo kit.

I am sure when i get my next high end car I would have looked back at my honda days and ask myself what i was thinking.

But it just goes to show that do not shit on it unless have experienced it.

BTW I been to the race track a few times and seen heavily modified civics pull 9 second on the quarter mile a stock vette would probally pull 13 or maybe even 14s at the most. It just goes to show that some guys do really impressive stuff with their cheap imports but this fact is far overshadowed by the many who just slap stickers, fart cans, and wings on their car.

Like i said before............its an $80,000 car with taxes and freight all in.............but did not pay MSRP(manufacturers suggested retail price).........i paid wayyyyyyyy less due to my connection with General Motors.
Say it again, Troops....I'm sure there's SOMEBODY didn't manage to pick up on the fact that you own an $80,000 car.

Don’t have a problem with people fixing up their cars, it’s a hobby. Was at the store the other day after reading this thread and saw an old fixed up VW Beetle, it looked sharp, and the work involved can be appreciated.

I do have a problem with the people that race around on the roads, I shows no consideration for others. That goes double for those that think they can police the roads by trying to fix or straighten out those that are racing on the roads. they are just compounding an already bad situation.

I cant believe that some1 would come here and say that a person with a nice car has a small penis...I know have begun to see that the world of idiots does not get smaller and that then unfortunately can reproduce. Excuse us for working hard in life and getting what we could not get when we were young. I lived in ontario housing all my life and worked to get to this point and and am heading off to med school to get even further (leaving a confortable job that pays more than the bills) and saying that I treat myself with a tuned car or even a luxury car means having a small penis is ludacris....I'm not saying I'm hung like a horse, but sh.it, your just envious b/c a person is successful and has something going for them...and instead of having a positive attudite, you must find some pathetic excuse.

Flame off all you want, its no worries as most other people on this thread, we've strived to get a bigger slice of the pie and want to reward ourselves for a good job.

I can say that people that see MPA are fat a.ss los.ers that have no life and are lon.ers....is that true? No its not. Most are professinals, quite a few are fit, and I'd say the majority is intelligent. Stop generalizing.

I'll probably look back and read this post and realize that is was just some babble...I've been up for 30+ hrs and want to sleep...

I'm happy in a way that I started to read the posts in this section as its given me a general impression of some of the SP's and their attitudes and another reason why my $$ should not go to them (i'm not referring to this thread in particular). Thanks superMOD

...you know, now that I think about it, being a woman who is NOT into cars, or expensive flash, or bling-bling, I have trouble relating to people who spend a lot of money to draw attention to themselves, be it through cars or what have you.
But, just because I don't understand something or cannot relate to it, certainly doesn't make it bad. I personally agree with Emma...I don't regard men/boys with noisy, obnoxious cars seriously in any way...who the hell knows why? It's just the way. I figure anyone who would invade other's personal space with noise/dangerous driving was an idiot to begin with...the car didn't make him that way. So what was my point?
Oh, yeah...I have to have my head examined because I'm not particularly attracted to rich men. I hate "stuff"...too much to carry. Besides, I'll take an inch of mutt over miles of pedigree.
Now can't we all just get along? LOL...you guys were really chest-butting a couple of pages/posts ago...LOL...you men and your toys...LOL

I have to agree with Uzo 110%

Number 1: Guys....don't cast stones at others....they are hobbyists in their own way just like the TERBites are. Different strokes for different folks. Those "losers" you are talking about may have their own opinion of this hobby and those who partake in it. That being the case, who is the actual ***** ?...you?...them?.....who knows....so who cares. you are happy in your hobby and they are happy in theirs

Number 2: I feel you Uzo. I think its the silliest thing to draw a correaltion between a man's penis and his automobile. A man can't work hard and treat himself to what he likes without ridicule??? c'mon guys thats garbage. What is so wrong with liking sports/luxury cars?...That whole penis/car theory is a cop out excuse used to mask envy. If you really didn't envy those with a nice car, why would you try to attack them physiologically?? It makes no sense

Just, worry about your own interests and have fun....life's too short to worry about other people's business

It doesn't take talent to make a car go fast by putting a big engine or turbo in a car (e.g. vettes). What takes talent is the engineering and R&D that goes into producing a car such as the S2000 with the amount of power from a normally aspirated 4banger. I respect Honda much more than GM for going that route.

Personally, me and my friends laugh at them indicating that they live in their parents basement, work at McDonalds, and spend all their money on their car. To us they're actually a bunch of losers.
Why do ridicule ppl for their interest? The same could be said for
Hobbyist, spending all your spare cash on something that these
guys with modified cars usually get for free.

For the record, I have not spent a dime modifying my car, but if
others choose to do so, let them be! Perhaps the root of your
hatred is from a jealousy of seeing theses guys with a hot girl,
while you're spending your paycheques on women who laugh
behind your back.

Fine, so maybe you're an executive, and can afford dropping
100K per year on SP's... good for you. But why ridicule others for
spending their cash on things that excites them?

Pick your poison.
Car freaks have always been persecuted by polite society. Unfortunately, they also suffer from intense Tribalism.

it sure helps the economy. we have mega car owners coming up from the states ( slowed down down with sars and our dollar finally going up ) getting performance work done here and going back home. parts are imported from the states and still cost less here than down south. free trade dumping grounds?

I hate cars that are all show/very little go. I only hate the drivers when their fart pipes or cheesy dance music is heard from half a kilometre away.

Last year I was driving home at 2am and a riced civic took one of the DVP onramps way too fast, skipped over the curb and ended up facing west in the right lane and I had to pull some evasive manouevers to avoid him. Alteast he cracked a rim for sure, he's lucky I didn't t-bone him.
