How do you change? Is it as simple as taking it out and buying a new one at Best Buy? Or, do you have to do something else to protect data etc.....
Many thanks guys, my battery life is down to about 1/2 hour...time to get a new one! The advice I get here is always appreciated.
Cheers

Yep as simple as swapping out the old with the new, there are many discount battery places you should check out. bestbuy/futureshop and the manufacturer will be your most expensive choices for replacement.
there was a very informative thread here a few months ago listing good places to buy and care of laptop batteries, but i can't find it.
maybe someone else can

I would cation you with respect to buying an aftermarket battery. Even tier one manufactures drop the ball every once in a while (google laptop batteries exploding, the last one i remember was with sony or sanyo cells back in 2005.) Lithium is very nasty stuff. I would prefer buying from someone who has a rep to maintain and will most likely stand behind their product. Or at a minimum have deep enough pockets to be sued.

I won't even get into how many chinese cells are vastly overrated and have 1/2 the capacity advertised, cells dying prematurely, etc.

you're right tuborg it's very important to replace it with a quality product.
but i wasn't referring to aftermarket no name battery, but places that sell the same thing as the manufcturer or bestbuy/future shop for a lower price. reputable places that will back the product they sell. i just can't remember the places mentioned in that other thread.

Many thanks all for the input. As usual the wit and wisdom of the TERB collective is a great help.
