I cannot stand Tom Cruise. There's always been something grossly disingenuous about him, my contempt has been justified.

A long time ago a girl I was attempting to form a relationship with suggested we go see Born 4th July. After 40 minutes of watching Ron Kovic getting turned into sausage filling, I couldn't take it anymore and walked out. I never called her again.

I keep asking myself the same question. Why is this incompetent still on the screen. And here's a perfect example! A True actor versus a want to be.

It was the fairer sex that elevated Tom Cruise to a status he's never deserved. He managed to hide the fact that he hates women for the longest time, now that he's blown his cover it remains to be seen how much box office push he actually has.

He's only convincing when putting women down, the rest is laughable.

But I'm willing to let the ladies fascination with Tommy Boy/Twilight pass, they're so much they have to deal with!

I have to disagree with you. I get what burns you about the guy,
but I actually think it's the reverse of what you said. I think it's his 'girl idol' label that undermined is rep as a great actor.
I liked him in lots of movies, not that they demanded performances of Shakespearean proportions, but he really carried the movies well,
and gave great performances. I find him very convincing.
I thought he was brilliant in "Born On The Fourth Of July", "Magnolia", and "Vanilla Sky".

Let's agree to disagree Jazzpig, did you not read post 17?

Born on the 4th July should have been Eric Roberts film. Not only did Tommy Boy shit all over Ron Kovic but he deprived a great actor of the part.

Eric Roberts? I can't watch him. I think we just respond to different things in actors.
I read the post.
What did he do to Kovic?

BTW, I do concede that Cruise is nutty. Not sure he started that way but has definitely gone off the deep end.

He was definitely brilliant in Magnolia, one of the two Cruise movies I like (the other one being Risky Business).
The storyline between he and his father in the movie is eerily close to his relationship with his own father.
The emotion is so raw and palpable, it never left me.
