Here is one teacher who is not sitting on his ass during the pandemic.

My grandson's teacher is interacting, communicating and advising all students in her class during quarantine. She is available via email for any student who reaches out to her. I would bet most others are the same.

I have a niece and a nephew who are both teachers . They teach on-line classes . They're not sitting around doing nothing . Both are very good teachers and are very busy .

As a teacher I will confirm that it is a mixed bag, in many ways it is a lot of work and is challenging adjusting to teaching online. Alternatively yeah there has been more downtime. The biggest thing I find that drags is being always "on". Having homework come in all day everyday, connecting with students and parents at all different times of the day. Mostly I miss getting to hang out with my students, through a computer just isn't the same.

The few cases i have heard is that class time is much less - that is lectures are at least 1/2 of what they where -as for the rest - let the kids have a break its the end of the world for god sake.

teachers were protesting against elearrning, I would have them stop getting paid until they return to the classroom, remember its all about the children...…….I cant believe teachers are still getting paid by Canadian taxpayers

The couple across the street from me are both public school teachers. I see Ubereats and all sorts of food deliveries there each day. I see the empties stacking up at the side of their garage.
I see their lights on all night. I see the mailman deliver their full pay cheques with benefits. As a small business owner I am even more disgusted with them than ever.

They probably don't think very highly of you either.

As a small business owner you sure are too busy with your Gestapo like tactics towards your neighbours which are really creepy, now we know you are either a mental midget or a troll because teachers dont get mailed their paycheques, this isnt 1983 any more. Now back to reality, it has been a surreal experience teaching online, teachers arent being given a single direct order from the ministry but various ones according to which board they work for a lot of times. The interaction is what I am missing, the personal connections, getting to know them and their families , and I fear a lot of kids who need a teacher breathing down their neck in a classroom to get things done or need help arent getting it. Either because parents are busy trying to get by or just dont care, the vast majority of teachers as most in society want this crisis to end ASAP.

Don't you think that the reason they get food delivered and light on all the night is because they need to completely redesign their teaching approach, record videos, answer students' emails, have skype office hours? If anything, teachers work more now then during regular times.

I am anxiously awaiting the statistics on what the province has saved by not paying supply teachers since they closed the schools. The absentee rate for Ontario teachers is through the roof compared to other similar professions. In most other professions, no one comes in to pretend to do the job. Other professions suck it up and, except in the cases of serious prolonged illness and injury, they catch up when they return. When this comes out the teaching profession will take another black eye.

Actually LOTS of jobs have supply workers - doctors, air lines, police, etc. Anyone with a real job that needs to be done as opposed to lawyers, accountants sales etc - all the pretend play video games and see sp jobs. Some jobs need to be done daily everyday. Other jobs - well the world would at worse be happy they where gone.

The Ford Government should pass legislation making the teachers and essential service ASAP, perhaps right now during the lock down. If not they will resume their tactics once the state of emergency is lifted.

Genius tactic. Put teachers out of work so they don’t do anything at all and instead go on CERB support.

Pay them to do nothing instead of pay them to adjust to a digital world? Real fucking smart.

Every company large and small has take. At least a full month to adjust to fully remote work. What reasoning is there to expect teachers to adjust with quicker? Stop thinking with such limited view and capacity.
