The off-season will be interesting. Is the core 4 broken up? Or Will they run it back? Assuming the core 4 is broken up. What do the Leafs get for Mattews? What do they get for Marner? What do they get Nylander? Tavares isn't going anywhere, he refuses to waive his no-trade clause.

Ok, I'll try for fun as an armchair GM.

I think they keep Nylander. Good contract.

Matthews to LA for 2 first-rounders and 2 prospects. Forget Arizona, they won't exist anymore.

Marner and 2023 first pick(Washington), 3rd round pick to Chicago for Bedard. Blackhawks fans will love Marner as his style is similar Kane's.

A highly improbable trade but these two franchises need to do something to find playoff success:

Package Matthews and Marner and perhaps a pick and prospect for McDavid and Draisaitl.

i know will never happen but would be one cool trade. Kind of trades that happened in the 80's.

since both McD and Draistl have NMC why not throw in Tavares as well since this is a fantasy trade.

Cool would be one word for it, but McDavid and Draisaitl combined had 100 more points this season than Matthews and Marner combined, plus the Edmonton pair together are cheaper.
Throwing in a prospect won't cover 100 point difference.

Have you experienced the winter months in Edmonton? I'd waive my NMC any chance I'd get to get the fuck out of Deadmonton.
Sure, but still why would Edmonton make that trade knowing both Matthews and Marner won't sign extensions in Deadmonton.

Throwing in Tavares at his current salary doesn't sweeten the pot 😂
We'd be offering up retained salary and a first round draft pick to dump that contract.
It's a fantasy trade. Leafs always wins these trades by a landslide.
More realistic is Matthews pulls a Tavares/Dubas and leaves after contract expires.

I seriously believe that.

Tavares screwed over the Islanders by talking about how much he wanted to stay in New York so they didn't trade him, and now we see people are already photoshopping pictures of Matthews sleeping in L.A. King pyjamas.

Why would he not say he wanted to stay. Staying was an option and so was leaving so why not just say he's staying.
Do you believe Matthews when he says he wants to stay a Leaf?

I find it interesting that Dubas worked out the contracts for MNM that all have clauses that kick in same day July 1, 2023 and his own contract ends on June 30, 2023. Almost like he knew that it won't be his mess to clean up.

Leafs aren't going to trade Matthews. Big 40-60 goal centers are far too valuable in this league. Tavares is the one they should move but they can't. That's leaves Marner and Nylander. Not sure what they're going to do but it will be interesting.

If there's one thing we know now, it's that Florida has an insanely hot tender at the moment. He's been the difference maker. Boston, Toronto and Carolina aren't' bad teams. They just can't solve Bobrovsky.

I’m just so amazed that how after one series Marner has suddenly turned into the culprit that so many fans want to get rid of, and how Nylander has turned into the darling of the Leaf Nation.

How soon can people forget that Marner been the points leader since this core was put together. He’s one of the best set up man in the league, he has the ability to make his line mates play their best, he kills penalties, he back checks and he was throwing hits in these playoffs.

He had a couples of turn overs but so did Nylander. Willy made some nice plays but the only impact he made in the final outcome was the goal he scored in the only win, but so did Marner scored in that lone win.

Willy stood out primarily due to the terrible showing of Tavares and Matthews but he also played pretty bad in a couple other games. He’s a high maintenance guy, he needs his butt kicked or for selfish reasons to play his best. He sets bad examples for the rookies and is not a guy you can build a team around.

I didn’t like Marner’s arrogance when criticized by Keefe and forced Keefe to backtrack his criticism, but that’s more of a reflection of Keefe’s weaknesses.

Bottomline, I’d like to see Nylander get traded before Marner does. His trade value is probably at its highest level and he may yield a good return to improve the defence.

EDIT: Nylander had such great playoffs he had 11 point & minu 4, Marner was so terrible he had 14 points and plus 7.

Yes, he is one of my favourite posters too. Intelligent, rational, objective, articulate and civil.

I'll just add one point. Marner is making $11mm, Nylander is making $7mm.

Yes, but Marner totally disappeared in round 2 against Florida. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Marner has always been a poor playoff performer in previous yrs, with the Leafs!!
