With the news that the Sens are lowering ticket prices 8-16% depending on the ticket I want to know - Should the Leafs lower ticket prices as well?

way out in left field
well, I highly doubt it.....unless of course hockey goes through the same problem that MLB did.....when fans stayed away in droves after they went on strike.....

Lower tickets

It would be really pointless for the Leafs to lower ticket prices. They have a demand that far exceeds the supply and you can bet many of the tix are gobbled up already by scalpers who will not be lowering the prices. The Leafs (and the teachers pension fund) may as well keep the profits for themselves.

If the Leafs and the Pension fund were serious about "giving back" to the fans, then maybe they should take $10. from each ticket and donate it to various childrens' charities (Ronald McDonald House, Rose Cherry Place, etc., Sick Kids Hospital, etc) in Toronto. Sadly, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Columbus are lowering their ticket prices big time.

TSN says, "BlueJackets lower prices across the board. In addition, over 5000 tickets for weekday night games will be in the $10 range"

I'm impressed the Bluejackets would lower ticket prices considering they are sold out every game. I'd be even more impressed if the Leafs did it!

on the penguins website i just purchased a 10 game package... at 20% below the last season's costs... nice seats too!

don't mind making a few trips down to Pittsburgh... it's a nice drive and a far nicer city than Buffalo!

grim truth

why should the leafs lower prices...there is such a demand and they are always sold out even for 99% of regular season games..good luk ever getting a pair....i say keep prices where there at and run the team to the fullest like they have been doing....with high payrolls. now they have to pump alot of money in the developing players dpartment and with paul maurice good start for farm...they will still be at 40 mill payroll, they have to revnue share and do many costly buyouts....big deal 3-10% decrease that wouldnt make those tickets affordble thta much more anyways and it is still ran to acomadate the corp. world. I wish we could change that and have super razy fans for every playoff game not stiff in suits eatng sushi...

It's hard to be a fan of the Leafs when they are so disgustingly arrogant and treat their fans like shit.

Why should any team lower their ticket prices?
Hockey fans, like any other sport fans, will flock back to the game sooner and later. Just to bitch and moan about the high prices...again.

hey, it's a free market and they can charge whatever they can get, as long there is somebody to pay it.

simple economics... they need full houses... or near full houses to offset the costs accumulated due to the lockout...

Yeah, but they have to watch the Sens so why not cut their fans a break?

The Leafs may be FORCED to drop some prices. If 29 teams lower prices and the Leafs don't, they're going to look very, very bad. And the way it's going, it looks like there's gonna be tons of bargains for tickets around the league.

I predict the Leafs will actually lower prices. Having said that however, I think it will be a meagre decrease, around 3-5% tops, strictly to maintain some public image in this "new era".

I'm sorry to say this.

Leaf fans are the dumbest fans in pro sports.

They've been buying a substandard product since 1967. 1967!
The Leafs have NOT made the finals since. The Sabers did. The Canucks did. The Flames did. But NOT the Leafs.

Why in God's name would Maple Leaf Ent. even entertain lowering prices? The so called fans will pay full price. They'll buy all the merchandise.

Think of any product or service out there that's had as bad a track record as the Leafs...you think any sane person would buy this product or keep coming back for shitty service? NO.

Who do the Leafs' management have to impress you ask....the shareholders adn partners. Not the fans.

The Leafs sold out during the Ballard years - you don't think they can sell out now?

This is a business, as is all pro sports. There is a level of demand for all tickets , for all teams. Good or bad the leafs have an extremely high demand. I find it funny and interesting that people call Leaf fans stupid, yet there are so many fans. Have they won a Stanley Cup? Not since you know when. However in reality they provide a competative, entertaining product. The fact is, over the last 5 years they have one of the best records in the league, playoffs included. You can accuse MLSE of many things, including errors in judgement, but in all fairness in the last few years they have gone out and signed several big name players and made trades for players that cost them dearly in the future; Nolan & Leetch were acquired for the playoffs. True they did not work out, but they went for it didn't they? Roberts, Nieuwendyk, Joseph, Belfour, Corson (at the time highly sought after), Klee & Mogilny ar examples of free agents signed. Yes they could have made better acquisitions, but this ownership group has made the effort at least.
I agree that they haven't won, but when people say this team and that team made the final, answer this: over the past 5 seasons, who has been the better team and won more in total? Leafs or Carolina, Anaheim, Calgary...all 3 made the final.

Leafs lower prices ... by a whopping 5%

The Leafs will lower their prices by a gigantic 5%. The press release has been sent to all season's seats holders.

--------Original Message ---------

Dear Xarir,
We are extremely happy to be delivering the following news:
Later today, we'll be releasing an announcement to the media that the Leafs will be lowering season ticket prices to levels below the prices we had in 2002. This 5% rollback is a direct result of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL and the NHLPA. In addition to the rollback, we've also committed to holding these prices through to the end of the following (2006-07) regular season.
You'll hear about it on the news and see it in the papers tomorrow, but we wanted you to hear it from us, first. The complete press release is contained below.
There are a number of key dates in the coming months – here are some details you may want to note:
• August 2nd - Deposit due date for renewing your Leaf Season Seats. If you haven't already, please make this payment on or before this coming Tuesday in order to retain your seats.
• Last week of August – watch the mail in the coming weeks for an invitation to a "Welcome Back" event at Air Canada Centre. The details have yet to be finalized, but we will be holding an informal get together to celebrate the return of Hockey exclusively for Season Seat Holders during the last week of August.
• Second Week of September – your tickets will arrive at this time.
• October 5th – Opening game of the regular season. The Leafs will face off against Ottawa Senators at Air Canada Centre. This game will be a big event that you won't want to miss.
• October 7th – Final payment due for Season Seats. In the coming weeks we will send a final renewal notice that takes into account your deposit, and reflects your new reduced price.
It's been a difficult year for all of us associated with hockey. We look forward to welcoming you back to Maple Leafs Hockey in September. As always if you have any questions about this or any other matter, please contact your Service Team at 416-703-LEAF.
Thank you and have a safe and happy holiday weekend, and thanks for being a fan!
Sincerely,

Your Account Service Team

- MEDIA RELEASE -

LEAFS TICKET PRICES CUT
TO LOWEST IN THREE YEARS
Also frozen for 2006-07 regular season

(Toronto) The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that they have rolled back regular season ticket prices to their lowest levels since 2002, and that season seat holders will enjoy the new lower pricing through the 2006-07 season.

More than 43% of the seats at Air Canada Centre will now be priced at $68 or less, and 14% will be capped at $35 for regular season home dates. Tickets will be scaled from $35 to $173.

"We're pleased to be able to lower the cost of our season seats, and to be able to provide our fans with the knowledge that these new prices will hold the line through the 2006-07 season," said Tom Anselmi, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. "Under the new collective bargaining agreement we will be incurring significant expenses that are new to us, totaling tens of millions of dollars. That said, we feel we can put in place a five percent across the board ticket price decrease while remaining revenue-neutral in the short term.
"The Leafs will be executing a 'Welcome Back' plan to thank our fans for their patience and support during the past year," Anselmi added. "We will be announcing a number of fan-friendly initiatives in the arena and throughout the community that will engage our fans more than ever with the Leafs. It's been a difficult year for all of us associated with hockey, but we join with our fans in enthusiastically looking ahead to getting back on the ice in September."

The 2005-06 regular season schedule was announced Wednesday. Single game ticket information for the Leafs is expected to be announced in mid-September.
