Kessel was -38 last year. If my numbers are right the leafs were -44 last year at even strength. So every other line on the team combined for -6 and Kessels line was -38. It is sad.

Right now, he is the only bona fide sniper the Leafs have. Virtually guaranteed 35 goals a year. The problem is that he is strictly a one way player.
He is on a 8 year contract and his conditioning habits may work in his 20's but in his 30's expect disaster to occur .. Dan Heatley 30's started with 26 goals , 24 , 11 , 12 0 ... Jeff Carter went from a 46 goal man to being a AHL player in his 30's ..

If you had to go by first half numbers Phil would be a HOF but his lack of dedication to off season conditioning results in bad after allstar break numbers ..

This is the result of long term contracts. It's human nature and very few can continue to work hard once they are secure financially. It's like the short stop in that baseball movie (cleveland indians) he didn't want to get hurt. Same with guys like Kessel. He has talent but he is letting it go to waste. A real shame

You must be thinking of someone else, Carter played in all 82 games this past season for LA scoring 28, totaling 62 pts.
He also played in 72 regular season games and all 26 playoff games during their Cup run last season.

Seriously! I'd trade Kessel for Carter in a heart-beat. The Leafs need more guys like the one on the Kings' 70s line.

He is probably thinking of Carter's buddy mike Richards whose demise was very quick.

That is what I was thinking. Even so Richards only played less then 20 games in the 'A' before being recalled.
The Flyers may have rid of him just in time, he never quite hit the goal totals he had with them as a LA King, but was still a big factor in taking a leader role on the two Cup teams.
Despite his current state the Flyers are likely still on the Kings Christmas cards list. :thumb:
