So he's having an "amazing time" in rehab and apparently still on the payroll. In other words: he's on a taxpayer funded vacation to rehab. Something is wrong if this is true because that doesn't happen in the private sector. When you take a leave of absence, it's unpaid time off work.

It's called Short or Long Term disability. Most people, outside of self employed, have that insurance. Government is no different.
Valiant effort though...maybe try to dig up something a little more scandalous.

You didn't read very carefully.

" A Tim Hortons employee who declined to give her name said she saw Rob Ford come into the restaurant around 9 a.m. during the morning rush, and that people were approaching him saying, "Mayor, mayor, how are you?"

She said he ordered coffee and a sandwich.

Assistant manager Kim Quach said the mayor had been to her location at least once before, on an evening several months ago."

Medical records and notes are confidential outside of your own little communist world Mrs. Destillat.
I could have drafted that ignorant response before you even saw my post...

Listen, douche... I'll try to dumb this down as much as possible for you to understand it.
When a lying liar is caught lying about his lies again, while lying... ANYTHING hey says is, guess what??? A LIE!!! Unless explicitly proven otherwise.
I don't give a flying fuck about confidentiality... especially when the lying liar has betrayed the public trust so wantonly over the past year+.

If he's lying, we'll find out soon enough

If he's truly in rehab somewhere , then if for no other reason , he needs to be quiet about the location for the sake of the other patients.

You couldn't have drafted anything. All you can do is steal my lines and try to come off as original, Mrs. Destillat. However, imitation is the highest form of flattery so...you are welcome.

And sorry to disappoint you but Ford wasn't at Tim Horton's, but I don't want you to stop your search for the Easter Bunny, Elvis, and that thing you've had in your ass for the past couple of days.

There was a rehab doctor on the radio saying standard medical advice in a case like this would be three months off work in rehab. Think El Cracko will actually do that? Or show up pretending all is swell in a couple of weeks?

Honestly, I have no idea if he is getting help, faking it, or even went to try to fake it for political purposes and may have an epiphiny in there and actually get help.

Doesn't really matter to me other than I hope he does get help for the sake of his family.

But I can help musing about him actually staying in for 3 months, dropping 80 pounds and coming out a bit before labor day. He would miss World pride outright. And even the experts would have to say he made a go it it. What the hell that scenario would do to the campaign I can't even imagine.

Three months is still not enough time for a chronic drug addict. Robert Downey Jr did 18 with the initial 5 in virtual lock up. The only reason he's still with us is the intervention of a terminally ill friend.

It is also the reason why I found Rob Ford's interview with the Toronto Sun's Joe Warmington more then a little peculiar. Though Ford did say, "I am learning about myself, my past and things like that," he also exclaimed, "Rehab is amazing. It reminds me of football camp. Kind of like the Washington Redskins camp I went to as a kid."

To make such an absurd statement, I can only guess that Mayor Ford is suffering from the newly sober crazy mentioned previously. Though rehab can be -- and often is -- exhilarating, to describe it as being "awesome" like football camp is well beyond the barrier of coherent, logical thought. If nothing else, it demonstrates that Ford, at least for now, is totally missing the point of what rehab is about.

The problem here might not be the treatment centre, but Ford's grasp of reality...

I recently was talking about this kind of client with the Clinical Director of Caron Ocean Side Drive, one of the most exclusive treatment centres in the world. Nestled amongst the mansions lining the beach in Delray Beach, FL, their men's and women's facilities are luxurious in a way that the vast majority of us could only imagine.

It was explained to me that these...characteristics are endemic amongst Ocean Side Drive patients, who are disproportionately narcissistic in character. The argument is made that their need to be seen as totally in control and their charm offensive is just further manifestation of an ego defense gone horribly wrong. It is an over-compensation for the reality that their lives are actually fully out of control and that their internal sense of grandiosity has been exposed as a lie; like a snake eating its tail, drugs and alcohol are used as the ultimate defense against feeling the pain of their realities.

The trick for dealing with this population is cultivating a feeling of safety while challenging them to come into the unpleasant realities of their lives. It requires finding precarious balance between confronting distorted thinking and feeling patterns, while building trust and supplying empathy, safety and support.

Only in that balance can you help them deal with developmental issues and other psychological factors that lay underneath the addiction. I truly hope that Ford is at a facility where he can get the help he needs. The truth is he is not like any other client: he is a wealthy, powerful and has lived his addiction as a public spectacle. So far out of his comfort zone, his first instincts will be to rely on the maladaptive ego defenses that got him into this mess in the first place. Cutting through them won't be easy, and no addict is capable of letting go of them on their own. Very few treatment centres are designed to help the crack-smoking mayor of Toronto. This too is his reality.
Ford will go through this charade, return, relapse, not drop out, not change, and lose the election.

The city will recover, but I feel really sorry for his kids.
