I just turned 50 I can't take it like I used to.
I was having that problem for a while. Was not sure if it was age(57) or long covid but I was feeling off if I had two of more especially.
It seems better now at the moment though. I know the blood/brain barrier starts to break down when you get older.
But I love a cold beer after work. I take one from the fridge and put it in the freezer for a few minutes when I get home.
I never have more than one if I am working the next day.

The only reason I ever really drank was at bars if there were chicks around, hot waitresses etc. I Was never a home drinker. Do you drink more or less as you've gotten older?
Now retired with nothing to do in the winters, start at 5 o'clock, one beer, dinner at 7, open a bottle of wine, emptied by midnight.

Having a can of beer now. This friggin thread got me started. Actually. I rarely drink in bars. Maybe 3 times per year. Try to keep it down to a couple of cans a week. Sometimes twice a week. I used to be a drunk. So nothing really good to say about booze. Waste of time and your life. However. Got the taste so I suppose I will always be a drinker. Never be teetotaler. I figure a beer or two once a week on Friday after work isn't going to ruin a life that is already ruined.
Actually there's no such thing as one beer. Has to be 2.

Went out last night, had 5 beers and some wings and walked home around 11. There were many times when I was the last person in the bar and would watch them flip the chairs upside-down on the tables.

Alcohol is one of the worst drugs. I urge everyone to cut down or cut out alcohol. When you really really sit down and think about the fact that tge gocernment sells you this gorribly dangerous drug..it makes you really realize they want to keep a large segment of the population sick.

Really?? It's not the government forcing anyone to drink. It's a personal choice.

I could imagine the convoys heading to Ottawa of nutbags if alcohol was banned. LMAO

I've always noticed drinking enhances the mood you're currently feeling. If you're lonely and drinking you're only going to feel more lonely and worse, I've seen this when guys go to bars alone and not really getting anything out of it. If you're depressed and drinking, it's even worse as you'll feel even more down, alcohol and depression is a dangerous combo (4,000 suicide deaths in our country each year, almost one in four involve alcohol).

But if you're in a good mood and having fun, it only makes it a lot more fun. Parties and vacations without alcohol would be a lot less fun or memorable without alcohol.

In social settings, I think it's definitely important because everyone loosens up, gets comfortable and becomes fun. Some of my best friends and people I'm most close with was built through open and deep conversations with alcohol. I really like the Japanese etiquette, "the most basic rule of drinking etiquette in Japan is to never take a drink alone. Always wait for the whole group to receive their drinks before touching yours." People also get more touchy with alcohol and physical touch is important to further any relationship. Also nobody likes the guy who doesn't drink at parties (unless it's a designated driver where it's understandable), but it kills the vibe for everyone else. I like drinking and look forward to the times and events when I can drink with people close to me, but the only thing holding me back is worrying about being up the next day, work, everyone's plan to get back home safely, plans on where to stay, etc. Even drinking with strangers is fun like clubs, everyone's like suddenly best friends, people even cover for each other. Without alcohol that level of genuine friendliness and openness is almost impossible to find without alcohol. I went to an afterparty after an event alone once and I thought I would regret it because I didn't know anyone but it turned out to be one of the most memorable nights of my life, everyone was drinking and a bunch of us that were talking and dancing got in a circle and did some like synchronized squat dancing. It was so random and funny, but I can't ever imagine a time like that without alcohol

So you would like to see us back as in 1916 when alcohol was illegal or do you just want to see the private sector selling it instead of the LCBO??? Do we also roll back cannabis and criminalize that again as well??

Keep in mind, I'm only a social drinker and not much of one, and have never done cannabis but I am also a realist.

I go through phases where I binge drink a few times a month socially. Usually summer and Christmas time, but otherwise I don't even drink a single beer and it's not something I miss. Last time I drank was 4.5 months ago.

I know some people who get near blackout drunk everyday after work, I can't imagine that. Even having a glass or two of wine is too much for me to do regularly. I would feel it the next day.

Alcohol is more harmful to society than tobacco IMO. As a
business Molson is about as ethical as Philip Morris.

A legal drug that is much worse, smoking cigarettes. The first question a doctor will ask you when you visit them. DO YOU SMOKE.

You clearly dodged the question and used a strawman. I never said to make it illegal lol. Nice try. You lose.

I've never been much of a drinker. Never developed a taste for it. I come from a long line of booze hounds on both side of the family (though not my mother, but boy oh boy, rest of her family)

Anyway, I know I've been drunk all of once in my life. And that was at the end of university and I really didn't know how to handle booze. I remember wanting to know what drunk felt like, so I got blasted. All I know is that I ended up at the Tallyho restaurant in West Hamilton at 2 in the morning by myself. I have no idea how I got there. I think I took a cab to my parent's house later on. Next morning, I woke up and was starving and heated up some left over chinese food (as I always would if I found some in the fridge) and very shortly thereafter didn't feel too good and first thing I knew, I was praying at the porcelain throne. I didn't expect that kind of reaction. I'd seen lots of people ralph leaving the bar, but never 8 hours later.

And since then, I've never been blotto. I can go years without even a sip of booze. Sometimes, to be pollite, I will have a glass of wine, but it does nothing for me and good wine or bad, it all tastes the same. It's all just varsol to me. The funny thing is that if I'm in a situation where drinking is part of the thing, especially a work thing, people will think I'm a drunk because I'm not drinking. So I will order a glass of red wine and just carry it around, take a sip here and sip there. They tend not to comment about it then.
