lost data?

Hi, on Monday I uploaded about 200 g's of data on my 1t external harddrive. Everything showed up. Later in the day I took the drive out of the enclosure because I didn't like the setup. No power button etc. I then tried the drive in my external sata drive "box" and I can't see the drive. Is my data gone? Is the drive screwed up? It was working fine when I uploaded. The drive spins up but it doesn't show in my computer. What gives?

Could be just a bad connection with the drive in the box or with the connecting cable. Try reinstalling it again.

Data should be safe.

there are no wires to connect, except on the dock itself and they are fine. The drive powers up and the computer says new hardware detected and ready to use. But no drive letter in my computer.

update, went over to windows 7 and the drive is there but I have to initialize it. If I do that won't my data be lost for sure. It needs to make a boot record "mbr". But the drive actually showed up this time. I went into disk management. I know after that a format will follow and my data will be gone. Going to take it to the shop
