For me, 'Lost' is one of those shows that I still watch almost immediately after I Tivo it, unlike some others which I can let sit in my 'Now Playing' list for weeks. However, it is a very frustrating show in some ways, and I can understand why some people would tire of it. It moves at a snail-like pace, in terms of anything actually happening, and for every question that gets answered, five new ones get introduced. TV should not take that much effort.
As for the finale, when Ben was making his plea to Jack to not use Naomi's phone, I suspected he was telling the truth. Not because he gives a hoot about Jack and his friends, but because his way of life could be threatened if he contacted Naomi's people. Locke, of course, has long been in tune with all this island as sentient being stuff (and besides, he can walk there), so he didn't want Jack to use the phone either. This flash-forward for Jack strongly suggests that only bad things will happen to them if they leave the island.
I didn't catch the "J" name reference at the funeral home, but could it be "John Locke"? It couldn't be "James" as in Sawyer, because presumably, wouldn't Kate have attended the service? There has been a long standing conflict between Jack and Locke, and could Jack be grieving because he now knows Locke was right?
Since someone mentioned the Heroes finale, I'd like to add that this show rocks! The final confrontation with Syler was nicely staged. I liked how all the heroes all came together--it was very Justice League. One of the things about this show which I like is how it borrows a lot of comic book hero conventions, but presents them in a fresh, contemporary manner. The only thing that left me wondering a bit is why Peter and Nathan had to fly off when Peter was exploding? Peter has Claire's regenerative power, so why couldn't Claire just shoot him? He'd come back to life later, wouldn't he? As for the ending as it happened, again, Peter is indestructible, so couldn't he survive this explosion? Nathan could simply have flown off safely, let Peter explode, and then catch him again on the way down.
