if there had been no video of this execution, the official report would have had the kid leaping from the bus at the cop with knife held high, screaming " Die infidels! DIE!!!"

Sorry but this is not the army. The police are only authorized to use lethal force to stop a clear and present threat. That was the case for the first three shots but it appears not the final six.

He was on the ground legs toward the shooter. Sure if he got back in his feet shoot him again, but he didn't, and lying on the floor like that he was not an immediate threat.

This nonsense about what he might have had is irrelevant. You can't shoot people for purely speculative reasons. Now if he started pulling some sort of object from his waistband the becomes a threat again, but I have seen no indication he did anything like that.

The cops continuing to yell drop the knife on the contrary indicates that was still in his hands.

The clenched for me is that the cop stopped to adjust his aim lower to hit him when he was down. Had he fired nine in a row it would be less incriminating. But he stopped, paused, adjusted to the guy being down, and resumed firing.

That means he knew he was down and shot him anyway.

Excellent comments Fuji.

The Sun hints at the cop being on steroids.

Being a gymrat myself, I know it would be very difficult to go from 140 lbs bodyweight to 220 pounds, and also increase your bench press to 425 pounds without some serious juice!

Hmmm. Interesting.

One never knows but let's hope not.

and i still think the cops did a good job. not the tasering after he was shot . but the shooting.... good job. threat immobilized. and done.
That's why they shouldn't give guns to cowards. They panic, wet there pants and keep firing. The first three shots could be questionable but 6 more shots with the kid on his back and no threat is just a cowardly and over use of force.

Good job ... well in the make believe word of video games -- it probably is.

That's right cowboy, make doubly sure. Heck, why don't we throw a grenade. This is not war time. You taze him. A few cops go in. He's down and you step on his bicep if he's still. You taze him if he's waving his arm. You like to rush to judgment don't you.
Yes GPIDEAL, life is a shooter video game....

Absolutely they are trained to defuse situations however this was a clearly unstable and uncooperative suspect. They ordered him not to move, warned him they would shoot if he did:

Forcillo only opened fire after Yatim moved forward (after being ordered not to). He fired 3 shots, he did not unload 9 in succession as many seem to believe. Yatim was still not incapacitated as police did not yet converge on him. A few seconds later, Forcillo fires 6 more shots. At that time police move onto the streetcar. There are shouts to drop the knife implying Yatim still held and was still perceived to be a risk to the officers. Another officer, a higher ranking supervising officer no less, feels the need to taser Yatim which again suggests that he was still perceived to be a threat.

I wasn't there so I wouldn't know the facts. Sound like you had front row seats right at the crime scene, or are you just regurgitating what you read...........we all know the press gets it right the first time don't we.

What a bunch of crock, firing 3 shots and he was not incapacitated, what does that mean, he was squirming on the floor scared out of his mind? So you shoot 6 more times to make sure he doesn't squirm? And just to make sure he doesn't squirm a millimeter after 9 bullets through his lifeless body they taser him? Are you kidding me? You actually believe the crap you just posted?

Look in the window or back door, make sure no on else is on the street car and then let the kid sit there all night until he got tired

I understand no one should be waving a knife in a public place but there had to be a better way to resolve this than shooting the kid 9 times.

Shoot him in the knee's, have a cop go in through the back door , talk to him ........
Glad to hear that its that simple to scope and assess the situation under duress. Perhaps you can share your secret with the rest of the world. You could make millions/billions because
this skill is in high demand....

If you are with nine armed and trained buddies (the cops) facing a kid with a knife who is in a vehicle that you could simply close the doors on and you feel that you are under duress perhaps you shouldn't be a fucking cop

As said a number of times, before, they were not aware he only had a knife. Not paying attention are you. If he had something else it would change thing greatly and maybe at the cost of a cops life.

Except the part where it says that after 3 shots and falling to the ground, that he was still perceived to be a threat (what a crock of shit).

Unless he pulled a gun from his pocket, he was only a threat to Const. Joe Morcillo's bruised and rattled ego.
.... and since they had no idea he only had a knife, then I guess he was still a threat until he was searched.

I wasn't responding to you. And I have read your posts on various other topics so yes, I wasn't paying attention to you. That would be a waste of time.

Maybe SY would have lived after the first three shots, maybe not. It appeared that SY was incapacitated though, and the next six shots pretty much sealed his fate.
So you chose not to answer.

If the kid died after the first three shots and cop stopped, would this have caused an uproar?

Except it wasn't only me that has said that same thing. Whether or not you were responding to me or not is irrelevant, you're supposition is wrong for the reason pointed out to you. They didn't know he didn't have another weapon and responded appropriately.

+1. Besides it was more like 22 armed and trained buddies.

I think this was a complete screw up by the police. There are trained units who deal with these situations, they should have been called in. It would have been very easy to contain the man. He was a high 18 year old with a utility knife and was probably shot by a kid not much older than he was.
Have you people lost your mind??? Has gangster culture completely taken over our society? The blame mostly lies at the feet of the guy carrying a knife and defying police to do something about it.
Maybe the Police should not have shot him, surely they should not have had to fire 9 shots, but the blame for the police actions is mostly on the criminal.

Really? If a cop puts a slug in my ass for jaywalking, do I deserve a share of the blame? I think not. The blame for a criminal's action is on the criminal, sure. But if a cop overreacts when there is no perceivable threat, then that's all on him and those who failed to train him properly.
