The only reason the Leafs struggled with him out of the lineup was because his replacement Holl, Marincin or Ozhiganov was not NHL caliber. The Leafs couldn't win in the playoffs with Jake at 4m, they'll do a lot worse if they have to pay him 6+ m to resign him.Should.

The elite dmen you referenced play a lot more tough minutes against top lines than Gardiner ever did, especially the past season where he was often shielded from the other teams' top lines. He gives up the puck because he either loses focuss or is afraid to get hit, not from trying to make plays.
The Leafs got decent return for having him at 4mil but it'll likely take 6-7mil x 6 to resign him. That will not work within the Leafs' cap structure unless they dump a lot of salaries by trading Kadri, Kapanan, Johnnson and/or Brown. Besides, you just shouldn't pay that kind of money for a dman who you have to shield from other teams' top lines.
Kadri trade was obvious fake news for several reasons. One he said have traded meaning already happened. That right there you should have stopped and not propagated fake news.

These are not rumours. These are his opinions on what could happen. He is saying Jake could come back. That is not a rumour. Jake could come back or Jake might not come back are both true. Either could happen.
Gardiner will not be a good fit as he plays on the left side. The Leafs badly need RH dmen especially if Zaitsev is traded.
